• Please does anyone have any suggestions for a small business with 3-4 external employees all sharing large files?
Probably looking for around 3TB storage immediately, rising to 5tB shortly then up to 10TB within 2 years.

    We've no central server etc.

  • Hey Shoosh.. I am in the same boat... I'm thinking of AWS.

    What are you lot considering?

  • AWS workdocs perhaps? https://aws.amazon.com/workdocs/

  • @bazschmaz we're looking at Dropbox for Business mainly because most of the companies we deal with use it.

  • Anyone at reinvent this year?

  • Nope. We are busy being reinvented as a glorified IT department.

    https://aws.amazon.com/new/reinvent/

  • I think it's probably my last year. It's got too big this year, spread over 3 hotels, and every session full, so you walk 40 minutes to find you can't get in.

The keynotes I can watch from home, the vendors is the only thing I'd really miss

  • We're all DIY so most of the networking after the sessions is useless to me (other than looking for a new job :)). If I can't get into the talks there's 0 point. Plus everything is recorded and available afterwards anyway like you say.
Is it still in Vegas? I'd go and just get on it for a week and then watch it all on youtube while recovering.

  • Yeah, still in Vegas, at the Venetian, Mirage and Encore.

  • Anyone know where legacy installers are for https://aws.amazon.com/visualstudio/ ?

Can't install update because it's crying about old version, can't uninstall old version because I no longer have installer. Can only find nuget package for old version which doesn't contain anything the installer is looking for. Fucking pile of shit.

  • What's going on with AWS then? DDoS attack?

  • They must be too big to get taken down by a DDoS

  • You'd hope. But something is amiss.

  • I reckon someone forgot a break clause and caused a spiral of death

  • That may explain why my Amazon music streaming is fucked then.

  • Sorry, I left the keys in the door. It won't happen again.

  • Is there an easy way to install software for which I own a license to my amazon workspace desktop? I keep getting an insufficient disc space error. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

  • Yes, it installs normally.

Make sure you install to D: not C:

You might just need to check permissions to where it's installing.

  • Thanks Hippy,

I am installing it to D: and it keeps returning an insufficient disc space message. The install wizard shows available 49gb, required 27mb. I've turned off all virus ware etc..

  • The software you're installing to D: might have dependencies which have to be installed to C:.

    DirectX, MSVC runtime etc.

  • I used Workspaces for the first time about a fortnight ago for a Hackathon here. I definitely recall doing something in order to install Visual Studio but I can't recall what. It was almost certainly something like changing permissions on Program Files or changing the install path.

  • What's the exact error message? Any error code?

  • Found it

    It was this:

    http://www.urtech.ca/2016/02/solved-how-to-fix-error-2503-2502-on-windows-10-when-installing-software/

"Set the permissions on C:\WINDOWS\TEMP to AUTHENTICATED USERS = FULL CONTROL"

  • S3 Select, launching in preview, enables applications to retrieve only a subset of data from an object by using simple SQL expressions. By using S3 Select to retrieve only the data needed by your application, you can achieve drastic performance increases – in many cases you can get as much as a 400% improvement.

  • Anyone know how to move £ credit from one account to another account?

MS seem to be suggesting it's not possible. I'm inclined to disagree and if I had their contact details would hound them until someone pushed the correct button to make it happen but it's not my problem. Just wondered if anyone's had issues with that shit before? We don't want to use the £ to spin up a server for nothing and we don't want the account any more.
