Yeh there’s a bit on the tops and it’s probably just about still frozen so shouldn’t be a swamp. I think down Roman lakes will be a bit softer today as it was warmer last night

Section of the Tissington just north of Alsop is more exciting than normal due to resurfacing.

Just wanted to share details of a local MTB event - the Steel Valley Ride - on July 15th which helps the small environmental charity I work for north of Sheffield to raise a bit of extra money each year.

Goyt's Lane view yesterday. Had fun sitting and watching the cars snake around for a bit.

Is that the top of long hill?
-
• #808
Yep, at the top of the road that drops down to Errwood res, near the little shrine

I grew up on Elnor Lane, just the other side of Fernilee. My aunt used to be the landlady at the Shady Oak.

Ha, pretty close then! Do you know who has that shrine so well kept?
-
• #812
Afraid not, it's a mystery.

I’ve always wondered the same!
When I stop there it always reminds me that there’s a nice grass bridleway cutting the corner down the hill that I never ride.
I’m also mildly obsessed by the old railway line up there, love exploring that -

Any gravel/easy XC route recommendation?
Doing a one day expedition at the end of the month, early/late trains from London to Sheffield mid-week, would love some local route input.
-
• #818
How long (time/distance) would you like?
-
• #819
Say 6-8h riding max, at 15kph average? Max 100km though, with options to shorten if weather/mechanicals and such. Include a lunch stop..

I’d head out Hathersage direction. Out through Porter Valley, do a lap of Lady Cannings, Burbage Rocks, round Longshaw estate, towards stony Middleton and pick up a loop round Eyam (I can send a file for that), head back via nice gravel near the glider station above Eyam, bit of road from Grindleford to Hathersage, stop at pool cafe or the deli then roughly back the way you came.
That’s a gravel/ xc option but if you want more gnarly I’d get train towards Edale and Hope valley and ride as much round there as possible.
Feel free to pm for route links? -

This would go as a one-dayer if you're keen:

Probably miss out Gratton Dale though, only a sadist would route folk down there on a gravel bike. Ahem. You could also easily shorten it by heading East along the Monsal Trail from Great Longstone.Eastern Moors Loop is fun as light XC/grav+ terrain, can be added into various routes:

Hagg Farm descent (km 47ish) is a bit spicy, but doable on a grav bike. -

Out through Porter Valley
Yes this is really nice.

Thanks so much for this, I started plotting something, but got lost, if you have some route files I could look at it would be great!

Lots of ideas here, will look into them!

Or you could try this:
Love the route name, can't seem to be able to download it without having the region on Komoot tho, do you have it on other platforms? - Thanks for creating a dedicated tour
I think it’ll be mainly slush unless you go higher, could be super muddy too. I would but I’m out visiting friends.
Lantern pike and cown edge had a bit of snow yesterday, I’ll let you know once I can see out of the window?
