Before and After Cycling

  • I've met loads of people on the forum who have pretty cool stories about how cycling has changed their lives in small or major ways. I thought it'd be cool if people posted a before cycling and after cycling photo with a short bit of blurb so that others may laugh at us and call us "big fat fattycakes". This is not a boast post thread and not all about weight loss. I hope it will inspire at least one person to get on a bike and enjoy themselves. In the spirit of self scarifice, I'll go first.

I recently came across some photos of me from a few years back and was surprised to see how overweight I was. Not to mention the train wreck of a shirt that I was wearing. I was smoking over 20 a day, drinking easily 50 pints a week and quite frankly spent my life either being ill or hungover. At least part of this changed.

I was very athletic at school, both playing basketball and swimming at national level but when I left, I stopped sport and found the student union. My girlfriend at the time helped me get into running (I couldn't managed 30 seconds without stopping) and the weight started to drop away bit by bit. Eventually, she dumped me not long before our wedding day and I felt compelled to start cycling to clear my mind and get some solitude with the help of my forumenger brother Jallaphanti. (very abridged story).

    Anyway...'nuff about me.

    Here's me BC...

    ...and here's me AC...

    Anybody else?

Wow, great effort man! I'll be back in 3 months you can see me go from 18+ to 14... halfway now.

  • Cheers mate. The weird thing is that there was no conscious decision that I needed to improve my health or lose weight. Once I started, I just enjoyed feeling better and better.

Even in hindsight I was happy how I was. I'm just happier now thats all.

  • They're lap dancers shoes.

    SPD compatible ya know!

  • STD compatible ya know!

    Fixed.

  • OK so on the left is BC (I think 3 years ago) and on the right AC (3 months ago). But my New Years mission is to concentrate more on the health/fitness level not weight, I have defo had few to many pints last year...in the past months I still managed to cover quite a few miles on my hipster dream machine and even though I was drinking a lot and eating junk more then I should, I still improved my condition so me thinks that if I cut on booze and other shit I might end up at the Olympics, just saying...

Let's just say I had a fatty couple of years after I stopped rowing and before I discovered how much I love cycling.

  • on the left you look like

  • Like me being a fatty when I stopped basketball and swimming. Common theme.

I do have to contest something though. If you really loved cycling you wouldn't be riding a furry bike. That thing is a crime against the sport.

  • rowing makes you skinny...!

  • jeez! looks like you're escaping from a concentration camp.

  • Wow Dimi, not a particularly pleasant thing to say.

I do have a road bike back home innit.

  • Could be furry too for all I know...

  • the only thing lolabelle is missing is the potential for velcroing food/parts/tools to the bike....

    could be geniuz?

Too much? I've got that association with very skinny people. Sorry.

  • I remember that hairy bike.

  • I remember that hairy bike.

    That's something you'll never forget.

No biggie for me. Just thought that it might be a bit of an insensitive thing to say to a Polish lady thats all. I'm not offended personally and I'm probably being oversensitive.

    Not offended, heard worse.

  • .

  • There are plenty of hairy bikes where I'm from.

But I certainly won't forget it in a hurry. It felt weird.

  • Sorry Lola, not my place to be offended on your behalf ;)

Anyway...any other reformed fattycakes want to step forwards? Anybody got a video of them doing the truffle shuffle?

  • You want to see concentration camp? Michael Rasmussen is my hero...
