  • Proper pedals, vittoria tyres, remove valve caps, take a proper photo with the cards readable from the drive side so we can see what you've been racing...

    IMHO of course.

  • ^^ have you been drinking?

^ ha yeah need to sort the cards, was thniking to myself the other day why are they all facing the other way....

Also what's not proper about Restraps!?

  • Of course.

  • Both are beaterish at the minute.

I thought that was the point.

  • ha... you know how it is Theo...

This is more planning for the spring when I can get my lo-bro on for the 2013 slave ride.

  • i think you guys really should start trying things out instead of listening to the 'truth' from the internet.
    its definitely more fun.

  • Share with us, what have you tried this week?

  • ^^^what happened to the steel is real ride? Don't tell me I bought that 3rensho for nothing...

  • Lulz.

With no broken clavicles to worry about (touch wood) next spring/summer should be full of opportunities for trips to London, late nights, big hangovers and big rides.

Black turbo, regular quill stem and some black taped nitto pursuit bars will make it mmmmmm perfect.

  • Also what's not proper about Restraps!?

The bike is so close to being of parts from roughly the same era, like it's a beater from a classy parts bin. There are a ton of kiwi bikes that fit this bill, like this one.

Restraps are ok but I'd keep them for 700cmx or folder/townbike. I found it a little harder to spin too (as your feet are set so wide apart).

  • Aero seatpost, flite titanium, black quill stem and some aggressive pursuit bars

that'd be my idea of the raddest setup

  • If you get pursuit bars I think it needs LA84s or something else curvy and old

Pretty much sums up the build. Only thing that was bought specifically was the frame and stem.

I'm quite wide, feels like less pressure on my knees having a wider q factor, I find riding the straps much better for about town, and even some longer rides. I'd been having knee and right achilles issues following my fixed tour this summer, find being able to change foot position depending on whether I'm climbing or descending etc really helped with recovery.

Clipless is without a doubt faster, better acceleration, climbing, power transfer, less fatigue on long rides... Restraps are more comfortable though, and convenient... I've got some of those old single sided ATACs I'll stick on and try.

no way! would be going for minimal drop not maximal...

Aero as in carbon fin or vintage Dura Ace? Was thinking if I get B'Jammins Ti seatpost, put that on the road bike and take the ti USE off the road bike and fit to this.

Black stem and pursuit bars may be in the pipeline, haven't heard back from markairsy though.

  • Drop and toe overlap are fun :)

  • If you get pursuit bars I think it needs LA84s or something else curvy and old

Tom, if you do decide on something old and curvy I have nitto's version of the la bars. Too much for me on the Merckx and I can't bring myself to cut them. Welcome to try them out, as they are sitting lonely at the minute.

Only pic I have to hand

  • Nah, I can't handle drop like that for anything other than short rides... The nittos are real nice bars, I just can't hack it (:

  • I was meaning like vintage dura ace - a bit more period correct

  • Well, I've got one which may go on...

  • what about a 3t pro chrome or another tig welded stem? just put one on my razesa ...with those nitto bulls ur after and loving it. still not sure if i prefer the syntace or nitto so will keep u updated.

Think I'll need an 80mm stem, if anyone has an 80mm 26.0 tig welded stem kicking about send it my way and I'll stick my old airwings on while you make up your mind (:

Syntace you say? Stratos per chance? I'm after a pair of 200's

  • oi!

  • Nice Repost, if it was made by me it will be a war...

The beginning of a retoast truce?

  • hmmmm... the syntace are with an 80mm black nitto technomic stem right now...

yeah sorry i am an indisisive cnut sometimes
