  • This guy seems to be selling super cheap: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fizik-Gobi-XM-Wingflex-Manganese-NYLON-SHELL-Saddle-/290614926246?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item43a9ffdba6#ht_2503wt_1189

I bought mine from him a while back and the plastic base snapped while racing 3 months later. He replaced it very quickly with no hassle.

No packaging but alot of the stuff i buy from Chainreaction has none either.

I would happily use him again.

  • Just got a phone call asking for decal colours. Cielo have changed them slightly to add a highlight colour to the edges, so I had to re-think it all. Opted for a metallic mid-blue colour with a black outline, I think it will work well enough, but Chris King have a couple of other logos on the seat tube that usually have the same colours as the logo, and I'm not sure it will work so well there... ended up just dictating the down tube, and leaving the harder decision to Chris King as they can see what it looks like and wil opt for something that doesn't look crappy.

Also, Bromley Bikes may try and make a video of the build, so that will be pretty cool.

Apparently they've got a single speed 29er at the London Bike Show this weekend, so I may go have a look at that.

  • Any news?

  • Nope, just twiddling fingers waiting.

I'm trying not to be that customer that bugs them every 10 minutes, though I guess 2 weeks is enough to enquire again.

  • It's being shipped next week, a week in customs, so should be here in about 2.5 weeks time.

With another week to build, it looks like it will be here shortly after my birthday.

  • Yay! Cant wait to see the finished build

  • It's arrived in the UK!

Good news! At last your frame is here. We’ve had a check over it and it looks really good. Having it specified without gear cable routing has made the tubes look really clean. The colourway has worked out very well too. Every one of the Cielos we receive in all seem to be different! Yours has some new seat stay bridge detail. Nice knowing it’s the only one like it! I’m going to work out a date I can build it while Joe films it and then we’ll get cracking.

I’ll see if Joe can take a picture and pop it on our Twitter page for you to take a look at.

  • Good God Almighty...

  • A teaser from the unboxing of the frame:

Unfortunately I'm not there to see it, but the bridge looks very nice.

  • Cool!

  • I really wish the person who took the photograph didn't have one of those daft retro photo iPhone apps. But oh well.

  • Not building it yourself? With a frame that lovely I'm not sure I could trust anyone else to build it!

  • So nice.

  • ha! hipster triangles!

  • Nah, Bromley Bikes are building it.

I don't really have the space. I couldn't even get a bike stand up in the front room and then move around it.

I really need my company to be a success so I can eventually move into a place with at least room to swing a cat.

  • Whats the final spec list?

I personally think fork choice is a good one, but I'd have some Hope tech brakes over XTR.

I went against my 165mm cranks on everthing rule for my SS. 175s give a little more leverage when needed, yet I can still cruise OK. You kept your usual length?

Also I have the alu verisn of this carbon 17deg sweep bar. Takes silly amounts of dialing in, and you need to aviod the urge to cut it too much. But its perfect for a SS 29er IMHO. shopper like comfort when cruising, but gives bags of control and leverage when you step up the game.

  • I like the look of the XTR, but if I decide they weren't for me I've got Hopes on the Mather and can just swap them over :)

I can't recall the crank length I chose, I'll have to delve back through older emails. I usually ride 175s on everything, so I hope I kept the same... I'll go check.

  • Nah, Bromley Bikes are building it.

I'd guess Howard at Bromley will build it for you. I trust no one else to put my bikes together. You're in safe hands.

  • It is Howard that's building it.

They're going to film the build as a time-lapse, and that will hopefully go onto YouTube and then into this thread.

  • Nice. My Serotta is there at the moment awaiting some CX-Ray spokes for Howard to finish it off.

  • Had it confirmed, my cranks are 175s.

I trawled back through the communication last night and realised I'd actually not specified. But luckily they guessed the right size and so it's cool.

  • I also have these on my 29er. http://www.specialized.com/ca/en/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=64120

they are massive! great for grip, not so great when they start collecting mud and your bike suddenly cant be lifted from the ground

  • I'm going with Maxxis Beavers.

I felt a little out of my depth spec'ing some parts of the bike, so asked for recommendations which I then went and read up on. I have changed a little, but the tyres Bromley Bikes recommended seem to have great things said about them.

My #1 use of the bike, the daily use, is going to be riding down the side of the Thames on a light gravel path with many puddles and patches of mud.

After that, it's for fields, trails, etc.

Basically though, wet is where it's at. The bike will get dirty fast and pretty much stay that way. So tyres that are adept at the wet were something I wanted.

  • Look like a decent all round tyre. The small cracks in the blocks (sapping?) help massively on hard surfaces. The spacing of the blocks should shed mud.
