  • ^I was doored savagely last December by an individual exiting a cab on the left hand side without pulling over. The chap was apologetic and decent and sorted both the damage to myself (bandages) and my bike (cost of repairs) without any hesitation.

    There are decent folk about.

  • ^Though not decent enough to check before opening the bloody door in the first place

  • Still better than some drivers who'd try to blame it all on you and give you shit! :(

  • The oncoming skip lorry driver, who, actually waved and gave my the thumbs up, as I pulled over into a side street to let him go past.

  • ^(Lovin' you use of the post edit)

  • haha! its like a comedic

  • Ha yes. In comedy, timing

  • I didn't know about this thread! I emailed Morrison Utility Service in September, alerting them to a particularly good experience I had with a driver and was told that they would try to identify the driver so my email could go in the quarterly newsletter! I never heard whether they did ID him so I'm going to email to find out.

  • More reason to commend good drivers.

  • I was riding up Queens' Road Peckham not too long ago, when a car pulled out of a side street almost flattening me. I got ahead of him in the bus lane as traffic was fairly heavy, but then he cuts right across me to turn off again, forcing me to slam on both brakes and fixie skid to a stop. No indicating for either manoeuvre of course...

I would have been quite angry, but parked up in the street the dick had turned into was an HGV with the driver sat in the cab, who saw the whole thing, and as the car pulled past him he leant out the window and (literally) screamed 'WANKER!' at the car driver. Didn't catch the haulage company name, but waved my thanks and rode off smiling.

  • My considerate driver of the day award is going to AA president Edmund King who is going to present the Cycle Hatred tweets to the Road Safety GB conference

    What a hero.

  • More reason to commend good drivers.

Agreed ... need to work with dirvers where we can

  • This is a lovely thread

    Oh, yes.

  • Woman with door open on Regent's Park this morning saw me and made effort to close door. She didn't need to but the thought was appreciated.

  • AA boss gets my Driver of the day award again

AA boss says cyclist-hating drivers are absolute idiots'

  • good thread.

intersection of Bishopsgate and London Wall, going North to Shoreditch.
moped driver wil L-plates in ASL box. I smiled and made a prayer gesticulation asking him not to stop in such boxes. he said something back but I couldn't hear. I told him I couldn't hear. he then said he couldn't hear me smirking. I made a dickhead gesticulation and asked him if he could see. he laughed. as I rode off once lights changed (RLJ police) and a motorcycle driver apologised for the moped rider. nice guy.

  • Riding behind a lorry in three lane traffic, about the same speed. Lorry driver gave a couple of hoots before changing lane to turn left, and waved at me as I went around him. Ace.

  • Brooks and Daughter Locksmith.

Drivers honked at me for not being in a bicycle lane (and I think he was doing a punishment pass), later between Balham and Tooting Bec, he asked why I wasn't on it (while moving), I explained that it wasn't safe for me as there was not enough error room, he understood (+body language), and drove on.

Really great to have someone who actually understood rather than shouting at me, made my week even.

  • send email, got reply straight away;

    That was me Edward
Thank for you for email ,appreciated ,drive safely though look after yourself
    Regards lee brooks

  • csb

  • Sounds like a threat to me, Ed.

  • A taxi was honking me last week, as I followed a bus in primary. I ignored him for a while; there was nowhere for him to go even if he got past.

A couple of hundred yards later, when we got to some lights, he pulled alongside and let me know that something had bounced off my bike when I hit a pothole. Bugger, my Garmin Forerunner had disappeared. I shot back, and found it balancing on a drain cover at the roadside.

I wish I'd had time to thank him properly. Cab drivers aren't all bad, at least in Edinburgh!

  • Thanks to the Riverford Organic food delivery driver today who pulled over in a country lane in North Essex to let me pass today. It was a wicked Easterly headwind and he must have felt sorry for me..

  • Forgot to mention the cabbie in busy traffic on Tower Bridge Rd last Friday. Northbound, approaching the bridge in that mash up of lights and narrowing bits. I pull up behind a skip lorry and a van as there's just no safe way to filter through. Bloke driving a black cab behind me winds his window down and calls to me. I imagine he's about to have a go because I've slotted in ahead of him and he's all competitive... far from it.

"Careful mate, that truck keeps rocking back on his brakes. Don't get too close".

What a nice chap. Cheers driver!
