I'm fed up of these stereotypes. If I wanted to save the world and look down on people because of my holier than thou green lifestyle I wouldn't drive a 5 Series.

The whole anti/pro cyclist debate is made so much worse by social media.
I thought the note in that article about the actions of the NYC printed news crews to raise the tensions was en-point. medias lack of social responsibility gets dragged into question in blogs/comments/forums and the extreme views in these places all add fuel to the feeling which feeds back to the press, as if seeing it printed adds strength our posted opinions.
How many times has this place flown up in rage following a stupid comment on an internet site??
and I wonder how long before the UK papers follow suit? The coverage of Jason Howard was impressive, and the manner in which it was reported - "get out of the way" before killing a poor innocent 17 year old... the daily mail even went to lengths to include the cost of his custom built bike on the line about his Paltry fine. pretty sick really
Cyclists will be the minority and always be a target, dare they try to stand up for their cause, try and bring a bit of balance in the media and they will be always seen as snobs preaching their own values..
its a no win situation but really who cares? could i give a fuck what the Daily Mail says when i have buns this tight?
Does a pointless debate between some piss stained fox yentzing lords in some fancy building on the thames really mater when my lung capacity is like a race horse?
do the words of some self publicising blogger really stick with me while i count the money i save on commuting and enjoy the sleep i get from dancing around these roads??nah.. and it never will so Fuck em

owning a bike at 12 actually my brother was 10, after a few years our coverage was highgate to south bank as our playground, that's the kind of freedom i want for my children and everyone else.. okay so there was less traffic about then, my brother and I had basic 5 speed racing bikes, when everyone else had BMX.. we weren't exactly cool, how envious we were watching the other kids do tricks, jumps at the purcell room undercroft :(

I have been riding round London since i can remember, and if anything its worse now than it ever has been - i am not a big fan of all the latest cycling friendly measures, as i think they remove the need for common sense - all that these separations between road users have done is make people declare war on each other if they infringe the others road space.

^ agree - the roads aren't safe don't try paint them blue and make them cosy!
it's also a sure fire way to wind up drivers which is what you don't want

^ I totally agree.
Although those scooter riders and minicab drivers can get screwed.

+1 to above posts when cycling on london roads we should be part of the traffic and learn the skillz to stay alive. when i venture out with my kids often sunday mornings i want to encourage them to discover our city, not with A-Z or following prescribed routes but building a mental map, find a turning go see what's there.

Eurgh, that the last time I will accept an offered hob nob from you, on a forum ride...
That's not true.
For a self-admitted old, fat guy you've finished some epic rides.
Maybe not the New Oxford Street ride but you'll get there...
