Such a tragic waste. Another young life squandered on the streets of our city.
Every best wish, at this terrible time, to her friends and family.
Rest in peace.

you hear the report and it touches you. then a name gets put to the incident and it hurts a bit more. then you see a picture of them caught by a camera lens in happier times, a perfect stranger going about their daily routine... stopped and more so it brings it home that its a fellow human being that has been murdered on the streets in a way that is totally avoidable. eleanor i hope your death has not been in vain.

"The policy means that any changes to road layout are made with the aim of cutting cyclist and pedestrian deaths above all other considerations, even the speed of traffic."
What else will it take for the powers to prioritise life over speed?

Leon Daniels of TfL said: "... road safety is central to every road layout decision,
"We continue to do our utmost to minimise casualties through road safety campaigns and safety improvements at key locations."
It clearly isn't, how can he say such a thing after such a tragic event? -

It's the same line over and over again.
-

You don't understand what he means by 'road safety'. It's a different concept from what you might expect. But as usual, this is not the thread in which to discuss this. RIP Ellie.

adroit, at Object's request, a fuller explanation is located here:

While you may have felt my remark to be patronising (as per your comment), it is a very sensible tradition not to discuss wider traffic matters on 'Rider Down' threads too much, and we generally try to nip this in the bud. That's not aimed specifically at you, just at trying to prevent a longer discussion from erupting. No offence intended.

This rider down felt closer to me than most, I cycle that route every single day and got married at Bermondsey Square in October last year.
14th of December is also my wife's birthday and we will both be there without doubt.
RIP Ellie

I think her family have been incredibly candid and incredibly brave so soon after such a terrible tragedy. Reading their words really brings the whole thing home for me. Her father met with the deputy chair of TfL and said "I said to him: 'In your position as deputy chairman, I want you to see what the human agony is rather than just the mere statistics."
Quite.
rest in peace Ellie.
