Thing is though, won't most if not all the 5 pubs be:
A) Rammo
B) Ticket only
C) Pay to get in
D) Wank dress code
E) All of the aboveSE pub
F) none of the above: not too rammed, no tickets, no pay in, no dress code. and owner said he will be happy to see regulars on NYEbut not too sure about other places

Cheers,
I should warn, this will be my first night in London..ever. I may need some assistance with the logistics.
Can you take bikes on the train? Is it possible to hop a train w/bike from Southampton to a convenient station in London where one of you can meet me? I'm also not too sure how I'll get back there when the party's over haha..
Love to hear about your Rocky Mtn. ride, I can in turn bore you with tales of bike touring in China and getting drunk with government officials in karaoke strip clubs. ;)
As Ed says, train should be no problem but not sure about you getting home!

Nice one kat...The Roebuck followed by the Dover Castle beckons.
The DC should be open to at least 5am...

@ Fast Orange;
Southampton Central - London Waterloo, take 1 hours, 20 minutes, it's the South West Train operator so no need to worry about 'booking' in for your bicycles and all that malarkey. return ticket is something like £40.

By the way, where are we all suppose to meet again? and what time?

When do they start running again in the morning?
-
• #208
There appear to be a couple of trains through the night but it might be worth ringing national rail enquiries (08457 48 49 50) to confirm.
0235, 0405 & 0754. Not sure whether they will be rammed or not.
You can find all train times here but as I say, might be worth double checking on the phone as timetables can be a little weird sometimes.

Off the top of my head, 5am in the morning is when they start running again.
-
• #210
Or going with the traditional method of using a timetable rather than your head, 0754 ;)
-
• #211
it worked for everything really, a lots of train usually starting running around that time.

5am's not too bad. Depends on how early you lot decide to pack it in really..
So as of now it seems I'll be meeting edscoble at waterloo station around 5, it is a bit early for me to be honest. I should at least have dinner with the relations before fucking off for dangerous drunken cycling in a city I've never been to before... any other options around 8ish or will trains be way too rammed by then?
oh yeah...does U.K. have helmet laws? Can I get fined for not wearing one?
-
• #213
No helmet law, no law requiring you to ride on the bicycle lane, etc. so don't worry as long you ride in a decent manner.
I'll ask again - where and when are we all suppose to meet?
-
• #214
Wouldn't be better to... Just pootle a bit and then settle for tramp's beers?

There isn't a train at 5am. That is Ed's guess.
The earliest train on New Year's Day is just before 8am according to National Rail. There is one at about 4 though. Seems weird...best to call to check.
Why don't we just play it by ear? We know for certain that the Roebuck is open and amenable to our needs. I'm sure the Coach & Horses will be fine too. Lets go for a spin and see what happens!

Might be a Royal Mail train, they used to run a ~4am service many many years ago.

Yes you can, just hop on to the Waterloo train (it will said LONDON TERMINAL generally), make sure you jump on the fast one with fewer stop, if you like I can be in Waterloo to guide your arse over, although i finish work at 4:30.
