  • Nah, it's flick knives now,

  • Hankies with knots in the corners tied to remember some forgotten thing.

  • Pumice stone for removing ink from hands

  • Dip pens and ink wells

  • Back then you'd carry a knife from the age of 6 till about 12. Now you start at 14 and finish at 19.

  • loads of kids from Uganda arriving in my school, and learning my first forrin words from them

  • Dip pens and ink wells

We were the last year to learn writing this way. We also had those old fashioned desks with a little hole to hold the ink.

  • Playing splits with penknives or compasses on the wooden class room floor. Who needed video games?

  • Monsters and woodpeckers that sat on the end of your pencil (not a euph).

  • Setting fire to things

  • setting fire to lots of things

(My best mate was a pyromaniac)

  • Making 'Ninja throwing stars' in metal work with tin-snips and sheet steel. Then chucking them at other kids when the teacher wasn't looking.

  • Spitting.

  • Setting fire to things

..half of l'ancresse headland after stuffing airfix stukas with lighter fluid..

    ahem

  • Pirate Radio

  • radio luxembourg, ah

  • The first time I ever heard John Peel, completely changed my life

  • flea darts?!
those grass things that grew on verges and the bits of 'green' space that weren't quite big enough to build another council house on, throw them at pikey kids and they stuck in their clothes and they caught fleas.

  • Why did it take me almost a day to discover this thread?

Too many pages to read, so probably a re-post.

Coke can ring pulls all around the ground outside the local papershop, thanks (in no part) to the amazing ability to snap the ring pull in two and use one part to flick the other.
