  • My girlfriend bought me fluffy house socks. OMG, what bliss... It unbelievable!

I'm other news, I've hurt both shoulders sleeping funny. And the damn things many months ago.

  • Fluffy lined memory foam slippers with soles that allow you to pop out to the bins without changing shoes. So nice.

  • Took a gentle tumble from my bike yesterday in the snow.

    Today I ache everywhere.

  • God knows what it is!! 🤪

  • This thread reads more like Nursing Home than Middle Age.

  • Ok, I’m blaming this thread.

  • Single skin brick walls, shallow foundations, and shonky roof construction?

Is it part of a wider trend towards easily removable or renovate-able buildings, to suit changing needs and fashions?

A previous flat of mine was built in the Victorian era in a prime London location, and didn’t have a 90 degree angle anywhere. It would still be a right pain to tear down, I expect.

  • Any pain or persistent foreign body sensation? Do you wear glasses/contacts? What is your refraction numbers? Here are possible causes in increasing levels of severity.

    Dry eye (foreign body sensation)

Recurrent erosion (foreign body sensation +/- pain) secondary to dry eye or ABMD

Corneal Edema (no pain or foreign body sensation) secondary to endothelial dysfunction. This can be caused by corneal dystrophies or viruses.

High intraocular pressure secondary to chronic or acute angle closure (pain, headache, starbursts around lights especially when dark out). Occurs in far sighted people most commonly.

Honestly it is probably just dry eye with occasional recurrent erosion. You need to see an eye doctor because it can lead to a corneal ulcer. Please wear glasses only (no contact lens) if you need to. Contact lenses are safe until they aren't... Do not wear your contacts!

  • No pain, no nothing... I wake up with double vision in my right eye, I don't think my vision has returned to normal yet from the first time it happened almost two weeks ago... It calms down after an hour or so and returns to 95% what it should be... Optician found nothing, did all the tests including a retinal scan which came back healthy... Off to the doc tomorrow, see what he says... 🤷👴

    Far out, man... 👀

  • super powers, obvs.

try and lazervision a child in half.

    memory foam slippers sounds good.

  • Will they help me remember where I left my keys / seatpost bolt / insurance policy?
    Dead to me otherwise.

no, but they will keep your feet warm.

  • Not an ocular/retinal migraine is it? Google it. Every so often, like once a year, I get a big flashing black and white patch in my vision especially if I'm tired and dehydrated

  • That's one of the things the optician suggested it could be... And an early sign of diabetes, blood pressure problems, etc, all cheery stuff really... 😳🔫

  • We got offer accepted on a 1951-1953 house so avoiding that problem :p

To be honest, I don't know much about houses, but our land lord (ex architect now retired) AND the finance advisor both went on a "naaah new houses...not the same" mini rant.

Lived in an ex council house, supposedly good quality in Norn Ire as they NIHE housing exec is pretty strict.

The new houses going up nearby, mwah... small for the £. Normal wooden beam roof though, I guess they are ok.

Another place nearby the LL said "wow with those steel beams as a frame it'll last 150 years" breeze blocks then single wall brick.

But my old place has a lot of bog land nearby...some new houses there have wall cracks.

No patience for the building company anyway, they pretend built social housing...except £900 co-owning/140 thousand+ builds is not social housing in NI!!!!

The local community group got screwed by them as the land was sold cheaper based on adding social houses, clearly the builder expected them not to fully understand the fine print.

Assholes. Won't ever buy from them.

    /rant :)

  • Oh oh, hope it's nothing too bad.

  • You'll probably have an answer tomorrow and I doubt very much it will be a scary one. If you have questions feel free to post here or message.

by the way while you may have prediabetes (I doubt it) or hypertension (possible), I don't think it's responsible for your symptoms.

  • Started taking boots high strength fish oil plus B vitamins and high strength starflower oil.

No difference for my partner in anything but my gammy left hip (old injury) feels a lot less niggly.

    Small victories ;)

  • Occasionally I worry that my mind is atrophying especially when I struggle to remember what I saw the previous evening when I continue binge watching a box set.

  • Backache. Definite sign of middle age. A couple of weeks or so ago I started getting a dull ache in my lower back just above my hips. Mild sciatica too, so off to the doc for exam and some meds, and she books me in for blood tests just to be sure. Liver and kidney function, prostate function too.

Good news is most are fine. Bad new is my cholesterol is waaay up. So off for blood pressure check and and ECG next week and a prescription for statins and a diet review.

My back still aches tho. And while cycling for 20 minutes last week in the snow my arthritic middle finger and my damaged index finger (I severed the tip of it while adjusting the chain tension on my track bike years ago) went completely numb in the cold and hurt like fuck. The rest of my fingers, fine. Those two felt like they were being hit with hammers.

Too many years of crashing and breaking more bones than I care to remember was always going to catch up with me, I guess.

  • Also I’m walking around work with a red hot water bottle tied to my lower back. I don’t care how it looks.
