  • ah you'd deffo manage the clit-run on your polo bike. hell, i'll swap with you if you insist on gears, single sounds daft fun for that trail! the hills aren't too steep and none are long so gears really are an unnecessary luxury ;-)

See if you have crank cleats, I know I have some but our spare room is proper living up to its name of 'The Shed'. All it needs now is a bleedin lawnmower... I was thinking I'd let you ride the roadie for half of it, so it'd be worth you cleating up else you'll have the mtb the whole way - tho rigid forks and semislicks on it so not too shabby even then.

  • I've now paid for a surly pacer, it ain't gonna arrive until next week though, maybe after. I'll do a flatish local ride on saturday on my fuji but freewheel, save the other ones for the shiny new bike

  • Yey! You can do proper cycling.

Also today was great just the right length and hilly-ness to encourage more cycling.

  • ^ Not that Rob would have got past Northenden...

  • He could skitch on passing cars or steroids. Whichever is easiest.

  • passing steroids?

  • Hokeydokey chaps - I can't tell if anyone is up for a road-ride on Saturday - 12pm start suits me best if we are. Don't care what route or how far.

I wasn't very clear before - I'm up for mid-week rides, but being a real grown-up (I love how I can pretend that's nearly true) I can only do evening rides. Sorry for my inherent obfuscation, you'll get used to it.

Option 2 is a car drive up to Gisburn Forest for a blast on the MTB trail up there. I think Rob's up for this and I'm happy to see if we can squeeze a third (wo)man+bike in my Dad-Mobile. Fiver should cover it for fuel if we get a third in on it. Perhaps Neil also does Knobbly stuff and fancies playing taxi-dad in the Polo Bus? (cheekier than a baboon)

  • I'm going to try and be in the library or sitting at my desk doing the arse load of coursework that needs to be done on Saturday.

  • gonna try it on my polo bike i reckon

  • ^get on, you big, double-hard mister!!! Remember to weight your brakes rearwards :-0 I'll pick you up at mid-day armed with flapjacks...

Any other takers should bring said bike (if pos) tonight to make sure we can squeeze them all in the DadMobile.

Re Drew - they don't make students like they used to... First claims of responsibility and reliability, now missing prime opportunities to procrastinate... You're gonna end up with a decent degree if you're not careful!

  • I'm riding in the Peaks with Retrobike peeps on Saturday - none of that man-made carpet trails + duck board stuff there...

  • ???

  • I'm MTBing at Landelgla on Sunday, my car is full but if anyone can make their own way there join us

  • Seriously Neil, what's this carpet trails and duck boards all about?? Is your peaks ride on t'road or on rougher stuff? Who are Retrobike peeps? Penny farthings take on the black routes?

  • Neil rides ancient bikes over proper mountains, you should see his basement, looks like an early 90's bike show but condensed

  • I've seen the cellar yesterday it was wonderous. Makes me want one, I may just kill the people in the flat below and take it as my own

  • they'll only be students, I don't think anyone would give a shit

  • mmm mtb. Im pulling all the alfine crap off the uncompleted voodoo wanga project and putting some SRAM 9 speed on it and some huge Rock Shox. I want something that will do proper moutnain biking like trails and such, so 3 - 9 gears, but still handle a few jumps, not sure how that skinny 631 tubing and many gears will stand up for it.

  • Steel dude - it'll spring back into shape, and if it doesn't, just bend it. GRRR!!!

  • DMR tubes are pretty skinny and steel and they are jumped all over the place it'll be fine.

  • DMR tubes are pretty skinny and steel and they are jumped all over the place it'll be fine.

nahh those things are compact geo made from oversized, gusseted 4130 tubing or sutin. the persona looks considrably tougher than the voodoo, which already has a dint from the bars swinging around with hardly any power behind them.

  • Well they you're screwed :D

But will end up with spectacular crash pictures which is worth it.

  • Damn good point - but Cane Creek have nowt on Danny M's legs... just give your calves the Wolverine treatment Scott!

  • it'll be fine, if it breaks it's cos you can't ride it smooth like butter

  • made from oversized, gusseted 4130 tubing or sutin.
