  • But really, got someone last month who left the bike 2 years unused and it was still functional.

  • If it looks good now, I guess an annual charge is going to put less wear on it than using the bike.

  • Of course, the JFGI answer is 2-5% per month self-discharge, so 30% charge remaining after 2 years in the worst case and maybe 50% after 3 years if we put the battery in the fridge

  • Looks like a loose battery has killed the seat tube cable in the grrl's bike.

650mm one of these likely to be enough to replace it?

  • If the B junction is right by the BB, yeah

  • Actually, nevermind, for once I checked the spares cupboard and I already have one that should be long enough.

Now I just need to find a tool to remove FSA cranks #ffs

  • Shit, fair point. I didn't build it and I'm not sure I can take the BB off to check.

Cranks should come off with allen key, BB might be GXP - does that use BB9 tool?

  • BB might be GXP

FSA should be MegaExo, which is near enough identical to Shimano HT2 to work on apart from some cranks being self-extracting rather than having pinch bolts. There is a wave washer for bearing preload on the self extracting variants, and they vary between having the axle permanently attached to the NDS or DS crank, so on this occasion you might actually have to RTFM 🙂

  • Cheers, I know there's a 10mm allen key bolt on the NDS of these cranks. I know this because we needed a "10mm stick" tool to tighten them up when they fell off on a ride somewhat recently. So, removing the cranks should be no drama. I have a couple of BB tools so I'm hoping one of them will fit whatever BB it is.

  • Crank is off. Although not sure why it has a Tighten direction that is the direction needed to loosen the cranks. Maybe tighter refers to the outer ring of pin spanner shit for the self-extract mechanism. Been so long since I've used self-extractor cranks.

  • BB is out thanks to BBT-29 and it's a mess of grease, rust, broken BB sleeves and DI2 cables. Trying to wrestle the junction box out of the slot in the down tube. Not quite enough bullshit to make me consider SRAM yet but the day is young :D

  • Small Hand Girl has junction out in seconds compared to me. Why do I bother?

  • It has a 750mm cable whereas I only have a 650mm or 600mm spare so sensible me would buy a longer one, otherwise when we yank the seatpost we might lose the cable.

Just need to find an LBS with them in stock. LOLs.

  • Just don't yank the seatpost

  • I mean, obviously. But humans are involved so you know 100% that someone will forget it's short and when the bike finally coughs up the post it'll be bye bye cable time. Not the end of the world, but if we went through this much shit to find out what the issue was I'd rather fix properly.

  • You can at least fit the short one now and order a longer one so you don't have to run around LBSs looking for one in stock when you do have a working one at home

  • True, but I definitely don't want to remove cranks and fish out a junction box twice!

We found a 700mm one in Shebuya. That should be good so I've sent the troublemaker to go get it. God knows if we're gonna be able to put it all back together.

  • two questions

    1) is anyone struggling with chain slap with 12sp di2? currently have the 34t cassette with the non-compact chainset (52-36). the chain length is correct according to shimano (see big:big photo below) and if i tighten the b screw more the shifting between 11-12-13t becomes a bit poor. the hub is less than year old hope rs4... freehub doesn't seem sticky and moves freely. i have even dropped the chain off the front twice when stopping pedalling on a downhill in the 11t.... considering moving to a 30t so the chain length can be taken in a bit. welcome thoughts/concerns/experiences

    2) i have saved this di2 rd-6870 from my godfather's parts bin. i'm not sure if it works (nor is he) but said i'd get rid of it.... does anyone want it? if it works then send me money for beer and make a donation to the forum?

  • I'm about to buy my first di2 bike thats coming with 6870 on it. This might be handy as a spare if it works! I'll pm you

  • fuck sake I knew someone would see that…. It isn’t clamped at all and is just resting in the holder. truth is I removed the seatpost and noticed a hairline crack in it (annoying but guess that’s ok after 4 years and many potholes with me weighing 85-90kg over that period…). New one arrived this afternoon to the tune of £135 :’(

thanks for linking me the fucking weird adapter thing though lol

  • Wonder if it will work with my 11sp r8050 groupset? might actually keep it if so…

  • no sweat, if its compatible then obvs keep it!

  • It should do, as long as the firmware is up to date.

  • hope rs4

It's almost surely the seal of the freehub dragging, nothing to do with chain length.
