Dammit just brought di2 and now this has come out! The only saving grace is that it probably won't be on the market till next year and with any first gen products it will probably have some bumps to iron out. So I guess I have time to enjoy shimano before I probably make the eventual switch over to SRAM...
I just paid for a 9070 group today, it's not suddenly become a bad groupset due to the SRAM release- be calm Hoke.

Can't wait to have a fiddle with wireless SRAM. Luckily for me, this ties in nicely with my idea of upgrading everything in about 5-6 years. Custom carbon with no cable routing ooooosh

Wire/housing-less brakes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That's quite interesting, guessing they will be able to save some weight in the frame department due to no internal cable guides? I know they have to bulk the carbon up around that area.
How will they manage to keep the mechs synced to the shifters if you've got a lot of riders together using the same kit? I used to have a RC car and we used different colours pins in the remote, will this be something similar or has technology gone way above this?

In ANT+ each device has unique ID when they sync. It's moved on.

Nobody mentioned wireless brakes.

I've not watched the vid- is it confirmed that the system uses ANT+?

There's no mention of what protocol the shifting system uses. I'd suspect its Bluetooth low energy, at least as the transport layer, with either ANT+ or a proprietary protocol running over it.

It would be nice if it communicated With your garmin etc.
I'd quite like to log gear with my climb data.

Moar datas!
-
• #564
Will they make a loud annoying beep every time you shift gear to keep up with tradition?
-
• #565
Moar datas!
Just need to add a pressure sensor to the saddle to log in and out of saddle efforts.

Do you recon this could be guessed by existing data, i.e. bursts of power and high cadence?
I'm going to wait a good couple of years until you've got a Garmin that displays GI, the GI of the gear on either side and the GI of the same sprocket in the other chainring. If you could customise it to show kph at 100rpm that would be ideal, really.
Also, how mint would it be to move between Garmin screens with shifter mounted buttons?

• #567
You mean like this remote, which they have just introduced with the Garmin 1,000?
-
• #568
Its not that much smaller than the unit. Where is it expected to be mounted?
-
• #569
Right hand aerobar, just next to the shifter?
-
• #570
I came here just to post that. Probably alright on aerobars, but pretty much useless for road bars. Hopefully they'll design something better / smaller in the next few years, or someone will gut it and make a custom one.

When I first saw this I wondered if it could be integrated with the headset top cap.

So further away than the unit buttons?

Also, how mint would it be to have a Garmin that just worked?
.

• #574
It's a good point - mine did start working again after a bit of fiddling, and hopefully it was just a minor inconvenience.
I understand it's unlike considering how vast a company Garmin are, but if Sram could buy out the cycling bit that would be juuuuuust great.

Mmm wireless. Much hot, so want.
Is wireless braking actually a possibility for the future? Car's have fly by wire systems so maybe it's not such a ridiculous idea. Although the notion of running out of battery mid descent could be interesting.
said no one ever ; )
