Answer in the form of a riddle = A homeless person; also known as a tramp or vagrant. :)
I'm glad I got a bargain then, I'll show this thread to my Mrs.... justified!

The ones off the CAAD12?
-
• #4229
Most parts were bagged so take it they weren't 'take off'.
They are now on my CAAD12 which I haven't ridden in a month and really need to put bar tape on. They'll then get the use they deserve!

Has anyone went from 11 speed red etap hrd to 12 speed red axs or force axs?
All the reviews online sound more like PR releases rather than any proper long term reviews.
Love my 11 speed etap, its been literally faultless for me.Would like to hear thoughts from any one running the 12 speed axs - any issues or things of note?
The chainring interface on the red axs cranks is something that looks like an expensive ball ache. But Red axs arms only bought and combined with force spider and rings a possibility?Right now selling my 11 speed group to fund a 12 speed group does seem a bit daft.
But a couple of things do draw me to it. The 1 tooth gaps in the cassette being one and the other being the compatibility with the Eagle axs on my mtb. Potential for 1x gravel mullet set up down the line. -

I have Force AXS on my road bike and my wife has a 1x Mullet setup on her gravel bike. The 1x mullet is great: super easy to setup, braking is much better and consistent than previous gen eTap, it looks friggin sick with the 'oil slick' bits, and the app works well. Force 2x on my bike is a bit more fiddly. No where near as 'bad' as SRAM mechanical in terms of setup precision, but still not just a case of bolting it on and riding into the sunset. I've also found my Force cassette quite noisy. I don't if this is because I'm using wax lube, or something else, but I've checked alignment etc.

SRAM mechanical in terms of setup precision
Interesting you say that, I found my 11 speed etap was pretty easy in terms of getting the shifting feeling nice crisp and quiet.
But when I got xx1 eagle axs for my mtb I was pretty disappointed in how sensitive the rear derailleur was to set up, especially the b-gap adjustment, to the point that even today I still dont feel its where it could be. I also have the rainbow cassette and feel its noisey and clunky compared to my old xt 11 speed stuff!
Did you find getting the Force derailleur set up tricky?Which size is your Force cassette?
I started to think the noise on my Eagle cassette was just because its wide range, theres more vertical distance for the chain to drop down and be the source of the noise. Theres always a loud clunk with downshifts.braking is much better and consistent than previous gen eTap
Are we talking hydro disc brakes here? I found the Red hrd brakes ok, I've only bled them once since installing them though.
Have you ever had any weird chain drop incidents with force axs?

dibs on your etap hrd if you sell? I'm local too so no postage worries...
-
• #4234
Ha! I'm out in Lenzie now. But close enough...
Right now brain and wallet says no to axs but the heart desires

Eagle b-gap was only tricky until I realised I hadn't pushed the tab up against the hanger stop so the whole thing was rotated clockwise.
Force derailleur was easy, I did buy the new alignment tool though. Cassette is 10-33t. Weirdly it's quiet on either end, but noisy in the middle.
Yes only ever had SRAM HRD, no mechanical.
No chain drops.

hadn't pushed the tab up against the hanger
I initially made the same mistake too. Corrected it but still not performing the way the reviews had me believe.
Is the noise from the cassette happening while you shift or a continuous noise? I've read other reports about noise with the force cassette, a 'noise reduction' kit was released https://www.lordgunbicycles.co.uk/noise-reduction-rings-kit-sram-stealth-cassette-force-axs-xg-1270
Do you have this or was it preinstalled on the cassette? -
• #4237
I haven't checked for the stealth kit, and haven't checked. I think my noise is consistent with others that have the black coated cassette. I have a colleague who swapped to the Red cassette and all noise disappeared.

• #4238
What's the XDR alternative, given how expensive the Red cassette is?
-
• #4239
Thanks for all your input dude. Force axs price is obvs way more appealing but might have to splash out on the Red cassette. food for thought
-
• #4240
Right now, as far as I can tell, there aren't really any 12 speed xdr cassette alternatives.
On site like aliexpress etc, there are 12 speed xd wide range mtb cassettes available from chinese producers. like this https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32959540332.html These being a cheaper but possibly questionable alternative to the expensive Eagle cassettes. But so far I''ve not been able to find anyone making a 12 speed xdr road cassette that could be swapped out for a red/force axs cassette. But it must only be a matter of time until such a thing exists.

I haven't seen any aftermarket AXS chainrings either. Perhaps the tooth profile is very difficult to copy?
-
• #4242
some expensive carbon-ti ones exist http://www.carbon-ti.com/products/chainrings/x-carboring-road-chainrings but they are hardly a budget option!
I haven't found any cheap axs rings yet
But this spider exists
shorturl.at/rGSY8
but again cant find any 110bcd flat top chain axs compatible rings to use with it.I think its just time needed. They must be in the pipeline
edit - found some rings by Stone but only single 1x style. https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/4000745233030.html

Ooft!
Force chainset and Red everything else? -
• #4246
Force shifters and mech; Red 1X chainset, chain and cassette; Hope calipers

• #4247
FWIW, SRAM have just released a silver version of the Force xg-1270 cassette, probably to avoid the noise issue with the black coating.
-
• #4248
Nice, got a link to it? Have googled but cant find.
This could bring me closer to my spendy-but-not-too-spendy-pointless-axs-upgrade -
• #4249
If you google XG-1270 silver then a few shops show up as having it. I think the official release date is in a month or as there aren't any images yet. Looks like they're not doing it in the 10-26 size though in case that bothers you.

It's in stock on Zyro allready.
Yep I paid about £450 18 months ago, I reckon £400 is more than fair.
