Riding a modern lightweight mtb in a cross race is rarely a significant disadvantage. Especially if its a 29er. The upsides counteract the downsides on most courses.
Weight on the hills and obstacles and squishy suspension on the fast flats would definitely be a disadvantage for me on that Supercross course - that said the steep descents through the trees would be a breeze.

My F1000sl weighs 500g more than my crosser.
Lock the suspension out on the flats. Boom!
The point where an MTB will really punish you is where there are numerous or long portage sections.

Just found out this is on again today, from the noise over the back fence.
Anyone going? -

A few on here are racing. I'll be along with @bothwell sometime this afternoon, to join in the heckling/beer drinking :-)

can we just turn up pay and race? Thinking of doing fun race- I've looked on the website yesterday and even online entry is closed it said on the day fee for £11 although that has been removed this morning.

Thinking of signing up for the one on the 14th by Kings X. I've never raced XC before but thinking about doing it fixed. Is this serious business or is there space for a jokers like me to give it a go?

Ah looks like no SS race but still willing to give it a go regardless! It's just that I've got a 39x16 SS but apparently that's not low enough for racing but do have a 18t cog. No tools for freewheel removal and broke from the build :( But looks really fun and I'm dying to get out there.

I think it's mostly going to be hard surface so that 39x16 might not be so far out of place.

No tools for freewheel removal
I'm sure somebody you know 'on here' must have the tools :-)

you'll be fine on that, pretty sure it's going to be completely flat. doing it fixed will give you important cool points though

I did want to have a go, after seeing how much fun the Alexandra Park course was. The idea of no mud put me off the idea though, so I decided to get fat instead :-(

Sigh...

To understand Ludwig's post you have to know that "Einstürzende Neubauten" means "collapsing new-builds'.

I suspect you need more than just fluency in the German language to fully understand Ludwig's posts :-)
