Now home, pretty tired, had a lot of food, a long run and longish ride was too much for one weekend!

  • Thanks for a good day out guys, maybe next time we'll take the train to London...

  • Great ride, something went wrong with the uploading of the pictures, so have to wait for a while but got the team picture on. Going to clean my bike now! XD

  • Chapeaux Bas! to those that came, it was well attended with quality people, shame there were a lot of no-shows, but hey I'm the first to bail on lists I've signed up to.

    highlights include...
Minute silence at a certain spot to remember Paul...

Ho riding a gear very very like 50x14... up every damn hill superfast...

Turners Hill lunch and pint stop was very jolly

Sun was amazing, we had utterly beautiful weather.

Tim going down descents no handed, with arms out like Jebus

    The world's crummiest Nachos evar.

    Thanks Seb, you ruled.

Ditto to what Skully said. But some people should be a shamed of themselves for a no show with out a doctors sick note or something. Even i made it out!

    The nacho's did suck!

Anyway please all raise your glasses to--------

50/14 remember a fallen comrade! Gone but not forgotten.

I thank you one and all. (who attended)

  • R.I.P Paul.

well done seb with organising this today, too many great memories to recall, solid riding all

  • Great riding with all of you in memory of one of the greatest. What amazing weather, enjoying a pint at the top of Turners Hill and it felt like summer.

Skully, I wasn't riding no handed. I was using my air brake to prevent myself from freewheeling away from you fixed lot on the down hills.

Marky, I've managed to retain half a bag of Jelly Babies.

  • my recovery drink

  • ^ top class!

  • The team that was left...

Nice photos at the top of Ditchling, shame Alkalai and Anna aren't in it too, good to meet you guys.

  • chapeau to everyone who made the ride - the old goat would have been proud

I had a moment in the garden smoking a rollie [sans filter, natch] with me busted collarbone and ribs and raised me mug of tea in memory of one of the true gentlemen of the road.

    Fiddy - Still Rollin…

  • seriously, well done you lot.

  • cheers seb for putting this ride together. great ride, nice folks & perfect weather. enjoyed a nice couple of pints with Js & stringerman then a slightly tipsy ride home. other than that all I have to say is "goodbye to salt, hello to *sugar".

    • I checked, and yes, 6% sugar!
  • Great day, thanks for organising it Seb.

Nice riding with some old faces and always good to meet new ones.

  • Some pictures:

Skully cranking it into Turners Hill

    More jolly climbers

    Wooden sheep

    Pint at Turners Hill

View from the top of Ditchling Beacon

  • didnt think i would ever see skully cranking it up a hill. seems more strenuous and ruffling than i thought you would have the time for.
    good to see skully.

    perception changed.

  • I took turners pretty steadily, until that little wooden shop by the road, and attempted to accelerate as I got to the green. It wasn't paeticularly good preparation for Ditchling, mind you. Don't think I'll ever climb that fixed, unlikely with gears really.

  • I've managed Ditchling on gears a few times before but this was my first attempt fixed. It simply wasn't going to happen in 68gi with my bulk on the bike. I was so relieved when I saw younger thinner fitter people hopping off and followed their example. I suspect that if we had started with a climb of Ditchling rather than having it at the end of a hard day, more people would have got up it. I doubt that I would.

If the roadie pillocks who were swanning up in their granny gears read this (which I hope they don't), before you start making crass and insulting comments about how easy it is etc, have a look at the rear wheel of the bike of the cyclist you are dissing. In any event, dissing other riders is neither big nor clever. You don't know how far they have ridden or what their personal circumstances are.

  • cliveo, was hoping you'd latch unto my back wheel for the ditchling tow up..
that climb is never easy gears or fixed. Descending ditchling beacon with gears
at full speed my reward yesterday..

sorry i didn't stick around.. missed my home deadline of 4.00pm by 45minutes.
so my children completed homework, ate sunday roast, and packed for school by 9.00pm :)

  • Looks like it was a great day.
Were there really other riders making snide comments? What a bunch of wankers. Its hard work getting up there on a fixed

  • mikec not sure where those snide comments came from, poor form really :(

  • Some dickhead roadies descending past the climbers apparently. I was too deep in physical misery to notice anything. Bad form - that hill is 'king hard and a serious challenge fixed wheel.

If I had grabbed your wheel, I would have probably have died. I have sadly learnt that hills require me to climb at my own speed. My HR was maxing out even at the slow speed I was attaining. Later my HR was maxing out as i walked.

    good to see skully.

    perception changed.

I asked him to show me his war face when I took the pic. So he stuck his tongue out.

Thar isn't Skully but Fred Dibnah on teh bicycle aye lad.
