Double start = more entries for the Tour Aotearoa 2018. It's not a race, there's a series of photo checkpoints (if it's the same as a few years ago), you have to stop each night and can't complete in less than 10 days.
Official Notice - Two Starts for 2018
We now have over 330 entrants for Tour Aotearoa 2018 and more coming in, so we have ?decided to take 600 entrants spread over the following dates:
10th, 12th and 14th February 2018, as well as
24th, 26th and 28th February 2018.
More information will be emailled to those on the start list, and posted on FB, later this month.
Those who would like to enter should email jonathan at kennett dot co dot nz
Pedal on!

Not sure where to post this. But it's immense.
Kyle was one of the 2 climbers that went missing in Pakistan last week. I came across the video in a post about him since his loss.

I'm back from the 1st Torino-Nice Rally. There's more to come about this soon but I just wanted to say that it was absolutely amazing.
Depending on what the organiser does with this, it could go the way of the Dunwich Dynamo and get very popular. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I'd strong suggest you bucket list this ride for next year and do it while there's a chance for it to be a small, intimate event.

My friends Dave and Andy did it, looked amazing, gutted I didn't have free time for it this year. Planning on doing the route sometime next year with some local friends. Lots of climbing!
-
• #656
Yeah, it is a little col heavy. We took all the short options and still clocked 1200+m of climbing in 8 days.
-
• #658
So this requires a tent and tons of patches?
-
• #659
Tent might be preferable to a bivvy. We only used three patches between two if us. Did hand up a spare tube to another rider though.

Hey all, have been lurking for a while following the TCR and reading the ride reports. Epic stuff all round.
Loads of useful info in the thread for my grand plan over the next couple of years to do LEL next year and TCR the year after (assuming the God's of the entry lottery smile on me).
200k is the longest (Audax) ride I've done so far but 160k is a regular solo ride now, it's only really time that's stopped me attempting longer distances.
If the LEL entry comes off in January then I'll be building up the miles and looking at putting together a proper Endurance bike.

Really looking forward to hearing more about this, sounds perfect, definitely keeping an eye firmly on this for next year...

Could you share route files?

Listened to this earlier: http://dirtbagdiaries.com/fun-divided-three/
Initially talks about the types of fun, then goes on to expedition adventure races (described as an "all you can eat sufferfest"), why people do it and are drawn to type-3 fun/ultra/endurance stuff.

"military stradas"
Is it some kind of tyre-testing p_nct_re-fest?
-
• #666
Depends on the tyre...
The organiser posted their photos, should give you a good idea... https://www.flickr.com/photos/67338272@N05/albums/72157670727522304

Out.
:)
What's the bet I end up on that route by accident?
-
• #670
Longer than TD but flatter?
-
• #671
Ride out on one race, back on the other?
-
• #672
5400 miles mentioned, so longer... no idea about elevation, there's plenty of mountains they can/will route through.
-
• #673
TD meanders along a mountain range, whereas this just crosses them.
-
• #674
On the same bike? That would be 'interesting'.
-
• #675
I know where it goes... TransAm still travels down a fair chunk of the Rockies though and there's a few bumps on the East coast.

TD (no idea how accurate): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7993305
I'll let you figure out the elevation/km or whatever to compare.
