  • Tried a bladder/camelbak or other bottle mount options? BTA, saddle, etc?

  • Not tried a camelbak or other bladder yet. Current setup is one BTA, one behind the saddle.

  • If you can get one behind the saddle you can get two.

I think I may have a small bladder pack here still that I bought with a mind to using in TTs but I never liked it. I think there's a knack to wearing one, like you need to put them under an undershirt or something. I lost interest in experimenting so didn't use it.

  • On the Mersey Roads 24 there was a small marquee on Prees Heath RAB for the unsupported riders. Basically you could dump a large bag/box in there and then have access to it whenever you passed it (all loops of the 24 passed it except for the finish loop). Some people had made up 20+ bottles so they could just nip in, switch bottles and straight back out onto the bike.

I used it (and slept it in for 90 minutes whilst tummy troubles subsided) when I did the 24.

Might be worth asking if the same thing is happening on the Nat 12.

  • Can you not carry a bit more?
    Mine carries 4 x 1 litre bottles.

  • Could do. It's going to slow me down though as I've used all the convenient aero positions.

  • Not as much as stopping to pick up fresh bottles will.

Registration will take place on Thursday 1st October 2020, in Biarritz. The start will be Friday 2nd October, the route could take the fastest a long weekend and the race will finish at 18:00 Thursday 8th October with a party on Friday 9th October.

The climbing will be considerable, this is one for the grimpeurs!

TCRNo2 will cover a similar distance and elevation to last years race #TPRNo1, covering rugged terrain including sections of unpaved or gravel route to challenge a rider’s technical skill, bike set-up and kit choice. As our friend and founder Mike Hall quipped “nothing that’s worth anything is ever easy”.

  • I am annoyingly laptopless for at least 3 weeks.

Any good apps for iPhone that I can map out a route roughly?

Komoot reckons the checkpoints don’t exist.

  • I've already used up my holiday allowance. Pyrenees are lovely though. Enjoy.

  • Me too. But I'm doing Haute Route Pyrennees in early September and a week's training in southern Spain with @Cycliste in late October, so I think another week off in early October would be taking the piss with work. And I definitely wouldn't be able to do it in a long weekend.

  • I’ve heard good things about MapOut, not used it yet myself.

  • Likely neither would i make it in a weekend. With having just raced racing silk road, I would still be deeply 'traumatised'. I am tempted but won't do it.

We (wife and i) are also doing a trip to Spain, on our tandem! I hope.

  • What you got planned?

  • We (wife and i) are also doing a trip to Spain, on our tandem! I hope.

Nice! I don't think @Cycliste and I are quite ready for a touring trip on our tandem yet. So far we've used it once, for a 10 mile wobble around the flat lands on the Fens. I think we might need some more practice. And some brake cables, gear cables and saddles.

  • Race-wise, only Badlands and 12hr TTs, but I've got a trip to explore Girona booked in, a wedding and a stag do in other countries and Highland Fling 1000k audax needs another day off.

  • doing a trip to Spain

Where to? Let me know if you see any nice houses for me to move into :)

  • Best trip we did on our tandem was in Spain, Madrid to Valencia. Roads were quiet and drivers were really kind!

  • Yeah that was my hope, so goo to hear it's so!

  • those sound fun, except 12h!!
And I'll keep an eye out in spain, not sure where we will go yet.

  • Yeah, should be good. Let me know if/when you formulate a plan. I'm trying to find out as much about Spain as possible obvs.

  • Hence you can write badlands down as 'market research', smart!

  • hehe yeah, that's one of the reasons we extended the trip and are flying into Valencia first, to check it out and then head to Granada to check that out. Badlands is just an interruption in my Brexit plan :)
