Finishing the ride, and not the relationship...
As the old saying goes...
Get a tandem. Wherever your relationship is going, you'll get there faster on a tandem.

Got a tandem. Don't want to do Stelvio on it though...

Not seen videos but there are still photos of them riding together, and they didn't deny it.
I asked Mike about it before indypac. Understandably he didn't want to say explicitly that he thought she should have been disqualified as he didn't know all the facts, not his event etc. But he said that while he was happy for people to ride side by side and chat for a couple of hours, one of his main definitions of people riding non independently was if they stopped together and started again together the next morning, which they did night after night. And if someone did that on TCR they would not get a place in the general classification.

Very interesting. Quite keen to see how SRMR pans out.

It should be an interesting race. Hope there are no side issues.
Nelson won't allow pair riding - he disqualified Kim Raemaekkers last year, who would have come third. -

On the day? Nothing to stop you, though you may not want to - it's a potential headache for organisers and it could be interesting for you and an insurer's lawyers if you caused an accident somehow, or were blamed for it (INAL - just some layman experience of this area, if anyone does know the law in detail it'd be interesting to discuss that point). It's simply better to choose a different day. One rider makes no odds really but keep going that way and events may have problems, they need riders to self-police to some extent.

Does anyone ride with mudguards for these races? I took mine off a few weeks ago on the basis of drag/ weight reduction, but the accumulation of grit in the drivetrain has been massively increased, as well as road crap on clothes/ bags.
There’s obviously a trade off to be made, but I’m lacking the experience to make a proper call on it. The prospect of riding through Sweden/ Norway in summer rainstorms isn’t filling me with joy...

Yes.
Just put mine on today. -
• #3486
Quite a few had them on for TAW IIRC. Can do wonders for preventing grit-induced crotch rot.

I did in NCT.

Was great when it was raining for the whole first week and it was cold. But I won't take them on TCR. -
• #3488
I cut my back one off at the seat stays so don't need mudguard stays to mount it. Keeps my front mech and legs clean and I don't care about people drafting me!
-
• #3489
I rotated mine slightly to go further down at the front below the bottom bracket, to keep the chain clean, and not as far down at the back.

Thanks for the replies, I think I might stick them back on again. I reckon they'll improve the likelihood of me finishing by some measurable amount, and I'm only really racing myself at this point.
-
• #3491
Good idea.
I could have done that, if I'd have thought of it before I cut the mudguard! -
• #3492
I'm using them for TCR (although not many others will), but it always rains in Brittany, if nowhere else. I'd definitely use them for NC4000.
I used them for IndyPac. We had a couple of days of rain so I was pleased I had them. -

Update: looks like I'll have to take the front one off.
I'm riding midfoot on flat pedals so there is always the chance of clipping it when I wobble on a climb. This wasn't a problem back in May when I last had mudguards on, but it was on my ride this morning - must have clipped it, always with my right foot - about 30 times. I don't really have time to experiment and fine tune it, so off it comes. Hope you have better luck with yours! -
• #3494
I never ride with a front mudguard w/ midfoot.
-
• #3495
Yes I can see why. But I had no problems for a year up until May, when I had to jettison my mudguard half way round a ride when a cable tie snapped and it was in danger of fouling my front wheel. I must have had it mounted differently but not sure I CBA to faff around with it to find out what I did.
I expect I had the clip thingy mounted in front of the fork rather than behind so the mudguard was rotated forward a bit, so the stays were a bit higher and so clear of my foot.
Other thing is that my new shoes are slightly wider at the toe.
-
• #3496
I've got quite big feet so the toe overlap is just not worth it. I did try a guard again on the new bike and it was connection city so I ripped it off again immediately. I often scuff my shoes with the tyre.

Mudguards are back on, luckily without overlap issue. They ain’t light, but they’re stiff as hell and the coverage is amazing.

Well we finished the Three Peaks Bike Race in 9 days 5 hours. Don't think we've split up, so I'm counting that as a win.
-
• #3499
How was it and how was the bike and set up? Did you you hotel it or camp / bivvy?

Good job, mostly on the relationship surviving! A testiment indeed.
Probably in the TABR thread.
I know there was shit going down on Farcebook at the time too.
