  • Yeah, same. But there's still that cloud over him. It's not like "oh I doped because I had to do to stay on the team and earn a living" it's him making a decision to cheat in a self-policed gentleman's agreement kinda situation. Then again, it's only one guy's allegations right? Argh I dunno.

  • Matt mentioned it in his blog about last year's race. Seems to be part and parcel of the start. I know the same shit was going on at the World 24hr 2015 for half the race and the orgs did nothing.

  • Same course?

  • Looks like one dude is dq’ed. The one not following the route? Nico Valsesia.

  • Cool - he is the guy who was in the lead

  • Which section did he skip? It's hard to tell from trackleaders.

    (maybe along Lago di Fondi?)

  • Wonder what the story is. Surely not GPS problems that early on? Did he have the wrong route? Misunderstand the route? Or was he just taking the piss?

  • I can't see that anywhere, is it on FacebookInstagram or something?

  • He won last year... if the route is the same, did he also skip it last year?

  • Previous editions started in Rome, so I think the hiking section is new.

    Update:
This is where he went off course, following the road instead of the steep looking hillside

  • Was he using last year's route perhaps? Lots of people did stuff like that in TABR. People were riding the tourist board's route and not the files from the TABR site even though it explicitly says "THIS IS THE ROUTE TO USE" kinda shit. Idiots.

  • It’s on their facebook, but on mobile you have to scroll down a lot.

  • Ah, I block most Facebook URLs.

  • See my update. The Via Appia is well before Rome so that wasn't in the route last year. He follows the route nicely from Naples to Rome except for that section.

  • I saw that, but have no idea where on the route it is. I'm assuming they provide the route, so did he just miss a turn and not realise or think fuck it and carry on. Hmm.

  • Bit harse. At least give him a chance to explain.

  • Well, maybe they spoke to him?
They might've said go back to do the bit you missed and he said no?

I mean, he's spent 3hrs stopped now so I assume someone has told him and he's quit?

  • He was off course for 20 minutes. Enough time to realize you took a wrong turn I think. But lets indeed wait for his explanation.

  • Looks like he has stopped now anyway. Has been in Formello for last 3 hours.

  • Yeah but if you don't know you're off course, you don't know. Depends what he's using for nav. Remember Sarah Hammond's 100k wrong turn in TABR a few years ago?

  • that was hard to watch!

  • Petervary pulling away. Nico hasn't moved. TCR 1 & 2 in 2 & 3. Sofiane in #4

  • Let's hope skinny's superior strategy comes into play later. It's still only 20k. Then again, perhaps this race is too short for him.
