  • The Wide Load joke has been done...

  • Please have always got time for a classic.

  • His average is really dropping and it’s not night yet, 340 done 540 to go. Down to 18.7. I think if needs to be 19.7 to break record.

  • He's on the Mersey roads 24hr circuit now.

  • Or nearly enough

  • Maybe 10-15 down on schedule it seems

  • Depends how accurate that tracker is

  • I wonder how big the mental part is. Once your down on schedule and negativity creeps in it’s hard.

  • Yep, unless you'd planned contingency in it's not great to be behind. It's very hard to just lift another couple of mph to bring it back.

  • It’s impossible.
I understand his schedule is well above the record. So he’s under his, but above record. With a night and 550 miles to go. Going to be tough.

  • Yeah, that's pretty much his contingency, that difference. Presume they'll have a schedule and then an abort difference, when they know it's too far off to take the record and pull the pin. Unless you really wanted to end up in JOG, it's easier to get home from Penrith :)

  • Average is up to 18.8 at half way so he didn't slow further through night. Maybe it is break schedules?
    Front wheel is conservative!

  • 18.5 now. Might pick back up a bit after night. Night is always horrid.

  • Tracker heading south on M6 at 110 kmh. Bugger!

  • Yes. He's retired from the attempt,.

Hi everyone, yesterday Ian suffered with heatstroke. He also had a minor crash early on. He's struggled with a bad stomach throughout the night and this morning we've decided, for his safety, to abandon the attempt. We choose to go out but we must come back. More to follow...

  • Bad luck, glad all safe. Another day!

  • Sorry to read this, and after his frustrating transcontinental. Maybe cooler weather and he would have been ok.

  • My folks live in Carlisle; you don't get many cases of heat stroke over night there! Temperatures not on the same scale as last summer in the Balkans.

Not a bad attempt, especially given it was ok, but not really favourable, weather. But I guess the exhaustion from the first day was too much for him.

I don't think his Twitter guys mentioned the crash until now. Shame they are trying to spin things as you don't know what to believe if that is the case.

  • I thought he was just going to eat sausages and drink milk his Twitter seems the opposite.

In all the photos it doesn't look like he had an off.

  • Indeed. Impossible and wrong to speculate without being there.

I wonder if his window meant he had to go this weekend. A shame to have gone when the weather was not 100%

  • Over to you @wheels_of_fire

I guess you really must wait for perfect conditions. Pointless otherwise.

  • Can sort of understand why this record hasn’t been broken in a while. Allez allez @wheels_of_fire

  • No such thing,

Just need to decide on a z-value that you're happy with.

Ian's was predicted to be about +1.3 but came in at about +0.7 so tougher than he might have expected.
