thanks all for your words of encouragement. I ride 42/16 and it's great around the city, but for longer rides, I just prefer gears. A higher ratio just hurts my knees faster and a lower one would be way too spinny.....

I ride just a slightly lower gear inch (46-18) than you and on the forum rides i've ridden fixed i felt i could have kept up on a smaller gear. But if you have 42 on the front a 1t bigger cog feels like quite a big jump..

42:17 does feel stupid spinny at first, but once you get used to it, it is great!

Great idea, I was sorry I missed the Brighton ride. I can't make the 23rd but I'll definitely be up for the 5th.

Nice one! Really pleased so many people are up for getting involved!

Sadly, life and exams are still getting in the way, and will be until the end of this year - otherwise I'd be all over this.
Defo can't make the 23rd but gonna try and aim for the 5th! -

Not going to be able to make either of these - but am sure there will be many more ... winter miles (and winter pubs) sounds ideal.

I've only just seen this thread! Ugh! Sadly my sweet shop job is probably going to scupper any possibility of me coming on any regular weekend rides, since I'm in college during the week the only times I can work is saturday and sunday, which saddens me very much :( first I miss Brighton and now I'm going to miss all the future rides too...
I'll try to get the odd sunday off for ones that really take my fancy though, if it becomes a popular and regular thing, which I hope it does!

Hang on..you've got a job in a sweet shop?!

I don't have a fixed-hill-climbin' method except GO GO GO so no, sorry. Just git the fnck up it and stop if you have to. I'd say I would practice with Joe Smiff but I don't know how good he is at imparting wisdom from way the heck out front...

Have never gone on a ride before but would like to come along on the 23rd. I cycle about 8 - 10 miles a day commuting for work and have got a shitty geared bike (buying a new one soon!) so hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the pace...

Nice one Colettuce. What I'd like to see is all inclusive rides, where everyone keeps together, but we also try to push ourselves a bit, ifyswim? I'm sure you'll be able to keep up with the pace though : )

Route? And does anyone fancy riding out to Ep Forest from SW2 way with me?
Speed-wise, is there a lycra test?..
-
• #98
I've been at Hell's Belles all weekend, so no route yet...meant to speak to ms.chris about it over the weekend, but whipping got in the way. Will get route/start point/time etc up over the next few days.
Wear lycra if you want, but also wear jeans or shorts or a skirt or whatever the heck you want. Relaxed, sociable ride, innit : )

I seem to have a ride uniform of a floaty short dress and lycra 3/4s. Works for me! : )

Route? And does anyone fancy riding out to Ep Forest from SW2 way with me?
I'll be leaving from SW12 just next door so we could meet on Brixton Hill pre-start perhaps?
I don't think I'll be well enough to do this by then, but if you let me know your route/stop off points, I might come and say hi.
