  • The vocal talents of the proprietors has to be heard to be believed! Pimlico's finest!

    Layer Cake?

  • I eat fishsticks

    *snigger

  • fishdicks

  • Mike's Fish Bar, Essex Road

No-nonsense, no seating, traditional fish bar. £3.50 for a damned decent (small but satisfying) portion of fish and chips, super cheap for central London! A large is £5 or something. It is my eternal temptation as I have to walk past it everything I go to the shops for food...fish and chip eating has increased by 200% since moving here.

  • i couldn't resist... i only managed three posts before i started to decline. in no way should i be a father

  • fact

  • only joking, saw you on tv, you played the part well

  • clever editing

    £3.50!

you move there in the 1980s!?

I haven't seen a piece of fish for under a fiver let alone chips. how small is the fish?! fishstick size?

  • Fish & Chips will eradicate Cod from this earth.

  • And I come from a country were Cod is our national dish... not deep fried mind.
But it's you UK, who's making it disappear.

  • isn't. It's the spanish and their fishing quotas, before that it was the canadians. us English invented Cod

but we were clever, clever like putting flags all over the world. we named it Fish and Chips and not Cod and chips so when the cod goes we can slip in a bit of coley or haddock. maybe a nice bit of rock.

  • go back to sleep nuknow

  • save cod! eat fish that does not taste like soil!

  • £3.50!

You've just given me an excuse to buy one so I can take a photo of it to show you. Cheers.

    Deep fry me.

  • is mike's near new north and essex rds?

  • isn't. It's the spanish and their fishing quotas, before that it was the canadians. us English invented Cod

    Check again.
I'm not joking, it's a big issue in Portugal, and we're not blaming the Spanish, not for Cod.
Spanish are cunts 'cause they (didn't use to) respect sizes, locations, etc... they just sweep the entire ocean
like there's no 2012... English don't eat any of the same kinds of fish we do (both Spain and Portugal).
I.e: After cod we have: Sardines, hake and bass as top sellers. They all live 'round here, yet here, you can't find them that easy.
It's easier to buy fish that comes from Indonesia, in London, that fish from this coast...
You have Salmon, Cod and Haddock... and you eat Grey Mullet, which is disgusting.
I have seen this in programs like River Cottage, that somehow the British just don't fancy that
much the species that inhabit around this Island. Tru fax.

  • ^^ Yep, not right by the junction of new north road and Essex Road though, it's closer to the taxidermy shop

  • £3.50!

Loads of places doing generous cod portions at £3.50

Just been to aberystwyth and it was the standard price for a fresh big cod fillet. Where I live (in Birmingham) there was a indpendent fast food chain doing large cod and chips for £2.50 (or £1.50 small) for ages as a promotion (for several months).

I think the secret to this is that they secretly use Ling or other cod relatives which taste the same but are much cheaper.

Most chippies in Brum just sell horrible Pangasius Catfish from China though.

  • . and you eat Grey Mullet, which is disgusting.
    .

Mullet is delicious. You are clearly doing it wrong.

  • Oh am I? Do you know what they eat? You'll find them in pretty much any harbor, port, marina, dock, etc... they eat poo, swage, and taste of it too.
I just find it curious, we (Portugal) wouldn't feed our cats with it.

  • I bought it once here in London, by mistake... my parents still give me that look.

  • Sardines, bass, Salmon

    Proper fish

    Cod,Haddock,Grey Mullet

    Dogshit

  • I find Haddock to be very unpleasant, in taste.
