If you don't want this taking up space in your kitchen, you can achieve the same thing by placing tin foil over the top of a pan and then putting the lid on.

Put rice in pan add salt pour in enough water turn heat on high. Turn off when water is gone.

The old rice cooker debate again.

Not seeing the WTF. Meaning seems clear.

They’re just being tongue in cheek, no?
Edit: wait, is the wtf just how shit Virgin network coverage is?

Meh. Single use item.
Now,in the other hand, a Instant Pot does all that and more. 😉
-
• #10912
Yeah, but you can't cook rice in an instant pot.
Because you are cooking the thing that you want rice with, in the Instant pot

Nothing makes better oatmeal than my Zojirushi.
-
• #10914
Umm. Yes you can because it's not a single use kitchen item.
Been there.
Done that.
Got whatever rice badge you think I need..

You also can cook dried beans from scratch.
Not that you could use them in a chilli obviously.

That's a bit pilau-aggressive.

That doesn't play a tune though

Great game, and best performance by an Englishman all tournament, shame it was a ref not a player...

You should add salt after the water has reached a simmer. According to Alton doing so before can cause your pot to pock.

Am I alone in not salting rice?

Yeah. I love my Instant Pot. I love being able to cook dried beans quickly in it. And beef stew. And other things.
But I have never cooked rice in it, because whenever I want rice, the Instant Pot is already being used to cook the beans, or the beef stew or the curry or the chilli or the what-the-fucking-ever-I-am-cooking-that-goes-with-rice.

Depends what I’m doing with the rice.

Our multicooker came with two bowls so when the 30 minute stew is ready you can take the bowl out to keep warm in an oven while you put the other bowl in the multicooker to cook the rice. Obviously when we do curry (from a jar) we just lob a few frozen chips in the oven instead and don’t bother with the rice.

I usually salt the rice, been enjoying chucking some cumin seeds, cardamom pods and cloves in too depending on what it's going with.
