I want to see a brakeless hipster do a bar swap while riding no handed
-
• #10103
Ha ha, call for price..
-
• #10104
Would be quite handy for the Wide Barrèd Flat Dweller instead of having to straighten and retorque every time you go out.
But not at S&S prices

If only you could see the pile of boxed, as new, Deda stem's which my GF stripped a bolt in each one through over tightening. We went with road bikes to the Canaries twice a year. I have a corresponding stem to match each holiday. They became disposable so I ended up taking a spare. And now I have no idea what to do with a pile of stem's, each with a fucked up faceplate bolt?
Please note, hours were spent on the joys of torque wrench's.

• #10106
Like, fucked up beyond the point of just replacing the bolt?
-
• #10107
he is probably one of the best ti frame builders in the world, so I can only assume it's showing off.
-
• #10108
Yeah wow. Y'all missed this bit...
Stems are currently out of stock. Please check back in April.

• #10109
Tap in a new thread?
-
• #10110
I’d rather not take the risk!
-
• #10111
Alas, completely threaded. Each stem has one dodgy faceplate corner where the bolt just spins forever with no bite. One she managed to take out the entire thread as a spring like coil. “Oooooh, look. Is it supposed to do this?”
-
• #10112
I could. But they’ve all been replaced now. And I think the resale value of “as new” stems with a caution caveat is low.
-
• #10113
Sell to people with the ability to rethread?
-
• #10114
Do helicoils go small enough for your needs?
-
• #10115
Blimey! Have you considered switching to another brand if you're getting on so badly with Deda?

FTFY

A stem a year is a small price to pay for a girlfriend with a strong wrist?
-
• #10118
Yeah, but imagine her threading that to the point where the top bit just spins freely.
-
• #10119
Already did, twice.
-
• #10120
@byjoshuawilliams Possibly, but I'm sure it's a small market?
@Constable_Savage No idea? I did explore the possibilities but they're not the greatest stems, just the bog standard £20 aluminium.
@ltc Alas, Deda is matchy matchy. Deda bars etc. It's all about the look sometimes.
@jsabine It's a minor character flaw. If they were carbon stems it would be a different issue.
@M_V So true.

Tbh not even sure where this should go but felt it had to be on the forum somewhere!

Classic Trump "when the looting starts, the shooting starts".
I guess you can re-attach your bars without any adjustment needed. So you wouldn't have to set the level of your bars or straighten your stem relative to the fork.
Still stupid though.
