  • 2000 Look KG243 in Columbus Neuron steel

    Very nice!

    Colour coded...

    Oh Vince...

  • I need to renew the gear/brake cables so I might go nuts on the cable colours (red/blue/yellow/silver) and change the bar tape / tyres back a traditional black.

And will ride in London for a bit & sell...

  • I might go nuts on the cable colours (red/blue/yellow/silver)

    Don't.

and change the bar tape / tyres back a traditional black.

    Do.

    & sell...

    Don't.

  • Searches ebay for a 53cm 243......

  • So I'm the proud new owner of Hovis's 595. Gonna build it up (once baby is old enough to sit and watch me without screaming, so hopefully by the tail end of next summer) with ten speed Chorus carbon (got) but not sure on the wheels. I don't want them to scream, "LOOK HOW MUCH I PAID FOR THESE FUCKING WHEELS!".

I also am not a fan of non-regular spoke patterns. Basically I want nice looking wheels that have minimal branding and, er, go fast and that. Spend...max £200?

    Help?

  • De sticker a set of askiums?

  • nice looking wheels that have minimal branding and, er, go fast and that. Spend...max £200?

DT R24 still looks like the best choice under £200. German shops usually have the best price e.g. https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/dt-swiss-r24-spline-28700-c-road-wheel-set-797206/aid:797208

Don't be fooled by the dodgy OEM version at Chain Reaction, £99.99 looks too good to be true because it is, but they are still haven't got them listed honestly in spite of at least two forumengers taking them to task over it.

  • The Fulcrum Racing 5 LG CX would be a decent choice, in the price range and the stickers come off very easily (just peel off). The only difference between the CX and the normal is that the CX has double sealed bearings, the normal 5 LG would do nicely if you can't come across the CX version.

  • Good advice, thanks. Am I selling the frame short only spending £200? I'm happy to go 2nd hand also to get better value.

  • If you stick with 10 speed you'll likely find a bargain. Imho a 10 speed campo carbon group would look the shiznit on this

  • Law of diminishing returns, innit. A £200 pair of wheels will do fine. I've been running a pair of the Superstar Pave wheels on a bike and can honestly say there's a marginal difference to how it rides, if at all, to a pair of wheels that cost three times as much.

  • Cheers Andy.

Do the DT R24 exist with Campag freehub? It's a bit of an arse-ache finding 10-speed Campag wheels new, it would seem...

  • What about an older set of Zipp 101's for 10 speed or even some second hand Neutrons?

I'd be tempted to stay on the lookout for some Hopes to Open Pro if you're not concerned about runner a wider rim.

  • DT R24 fits Shimano only, however any 11speed Campagnolo freehub wheelset will work with a Campagnolo 10speed cassette.

Fulcrum Racing 7 seems to be the easiest answer to fit your budget.

  • Do the DT R24 exist with Campag

If you want to use a Campag cassette, the Fulcrum Racing 5 LG are just as fine as the DT R24. I'd avoid the Racing 7 because plain gauge spokes.

  • True, just realised that 5s can easily be found heavily discounted.

  • Thanks again (everyone).

Just to make sure I'm not inferring something weird here, I plan to use Chorus shifters. Barring modifications and travel adjusters and the like, this would necessitate a Campag cassette (and therefore freehub), right?

  • Only if it's 10 speed. If you're running 11 speed then you can use Shimano cassettes and freehubs.

Read up thread, you are running 10 speed, so yes you'll need a Campag cassette and freehub.

  • Barring modifications and travel adjusters and the like, this would necessitate a Campag cassette (and therefore freehub)

The only other way with 10-speed would be an IRD or Marchisio conversion cassette, which is clearly the wrong way to go given that Fulcrum make a wheel with a Campag compatible freehub which meets your requirements.

  • I've seen Campa 10 speed shifters+derailleurs used with 10 speed shimano cassettes and work perfect, but they only work in certain shifter/derailleur combinations (like here http://forums.mtbr.com/drivetrain-shifters-derailleurs-cranks/10-speed-ultegra-cassette-campy-derailleur-382247.html).

Or you would (indeed) need a travel adjuster/adapter like a Shiftmate 1 (look at chart here http://www.jtekengineering.com/resources/shiftmate-compatibility/) which is pretty easy to install..

If above options are not for you, then just get Campa stuff

  • Yeah cheers - let's nip all this conversion chat in the bud. I'm sticking with Campag (compatible) wheelz.

  • I've stepped back from the edge of insanity and decided to keep my Look 585. it's the most comfortable road bike i've ever ridden.
