28c it is then, bigger the tyres, less chance of puncture.

*"If your tyre says 'Gatorskin' on the side, you should remove it immediately and replace it with something else"
*At the risk of entering a tyre conversation, repped

I'd try to argue with that statement but even though I tend to go 1500mi between punctures on gatorskins I cannot argue with the fact that most of the punctures we have had on group rides recently have been on gators.

Hah. Please let us not turn this into another of ed's equipment advice threads.

Quite right, let's not screw this thread.

Sorry, was just stating that I can't argue with fact! Ed...dont do it.

okay, so truth be told, I'm a bit pleased I'm away on hols for this ride as 160 miles makes my knees ache just thinking about it.
Have a great day though!

I had that tyres before, a lots better than the gatorskin and felt like there's just about as much grip in the wet as in the dry, although that was a years ago when I sold the Condor Pista for an utility bike.
Anyhow most popular tyres are generally contis, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why we heard so many puncture on contis.

Seen from the previous threads the recces were done fixed or singlespeed
Would the while ride be doable singlespeed.... I've done the Dynamo a few times and regular FNRttC's just don't wanna hold the group up. Current gear ratio 48:18 -

All done fixed. So yes. Whether my knees can do 160 miles fixed at the moment is another matter...

It's an M25 scrolt.

2 years in the making and you pick a day in the one week I am out of the country.....
Have a great ride guys, I'm looking forward to the write-up.

ffffffuuuuuuuu.....
two years following this thread waiting, willing for it to happen ( so i can cycle halfway then bail out!)
and what am i doing? a suit fitting for my sisters wedding....
-
• #43
Fret not, I'm sure there will be an M25 ride #2!
-
• #44
Definitely tempted by this.
But it depends how lumpy this ride is. A flat 160 is quite different to a lumpy one... -
• #45
If only this was the 21st... have a great ride.
-
• #46
I am massively tempted by this, but I have never met anyone on the forum, nor been on any forum rides so this would be a big way to start that off...

Well I survived the Herne Bay Ride yesterday...no aches or pains today albeit I rode from mine to Dartford to join them but at the end of the day 68miles on the cycle computer.
If I slow the ride up i'll bailout but am aiming to complete as i've liked the idea of this ride for quite some time now. -
• #48
Sadly, it looks like I can't fit this in after all.

I love the idea of this ride. I'm going to run it past the Mrs' diary tonight (like any of you have never done it) and if it jives then I'm in. I'll bring my fancy-pants camera to commemorate the ride if so.

The lady said 'you've been acting sort of weird lately and I think it's because you haven't been on your bike as much. Go do the ride, it will be good for you.'

And using decent tyres (i.e. tyres that won't puncture as soon as they leave asphalt smoother than a badger's bottom).
