reminds me of all beautiful old churches that they've massacred into flats. no style what so ever

Just watched that Grand Designs with Ben Law and really enjoyed it.
Hmm personally I'd much rather live in a water tower or church than a generic apartment block. Would you rather they lie empty and derelict? Agreed that flat is vile but at least there's potential to do something unique with it.
The 100-year-old purpose built art college known as Central Saint Martins on Southampton Row is going to become a hotel within a year and I'm actually quite ok with it as long as they do the place justice. I'd rather it be a hotel than be boarded up and abandoned. Plus then I can go back in 20 years and sleep in the same room I used to be taught how to use photoshop in. #WIN

nothing against they're doing up a building and changing it's purpose, what I don't like is the lack of respect. It tends to be done as cheap as possible just to be sold / rented for as much as possible. I've seen churches with a new floor in cutting windows in half, why on earth would you do that

^^ Fair doos, I see your point, it is pretty upsetting to see historical buildings redecorated like an Essex wives living room and then charging a grand a week for it.

Beautiful photo.
There's something more powerful form wise than function going on if you can consider a photo of an appliance beautiful, but that really is.
First time I showered under a head the size of that was in Australia, where I suppose they're common. Makes you realise you're being ripped off with anything less, as satisfying as they are.

The church at Inner Temple. Stood longer than you or I.
Apparently it was in a Dan Brown inspired film but I'd know nothing about that.

/\ I did some work on that church. Stone repairs if I remember rightly. Was a propper pain in the arse drawing the details though.

You did feel that you had be moving the whole time you were inside and the thought of it becoming a place to look at things for sitting down on was pretty ironic..
I have also been there. From a health and safety point of view there were lots of really sharp edges you could run into when racing to a fire. There was also a fair amount of unmarked full height glass to contend with.
I also enjoyed the visit, it's a nice site and there is a fair bit more architecture to see around the Vitra factory.

CoppiThat - those water towers are amazing.
I get serious pangs of the heart when i see those old buildings. Superior and authoritative. And I believe most of them were built during the art-deco era too which goes hand in hand with the grandeur.
Has anyone ever been to The Wapping Project? I've seen pictures but never been:
http://www.thewappingproject.com/Similarly to the water towers, a few years ago, my brother and I considered buying a Martello Tower to live in. They are scattered all over the south east coast. i think most of them have fallen to the sea, but some of them are up for renovation.

Shit off - thats wonderful.
Does anyone here design housing / structures? What about the fateful shed that kick started this thread?
When i was 17 i designed my own house (which is part of this whole life change im currently orchestrating) - it gets tweaked all the time - but i'd love to get my crude drawings on here sometime - see what you think.
