  • Long time reader, first time poster.

I need to lay a new studio floor (~14m2). Ideally something like, or similar to, Tarkett Safetred Universal, and worth saying we're on a bit of a tight budget so certainly wouldn't sniff at making-do with b-grade / defective / off-cuts

I've tried suppliers I've worked with before, and also through my partner who is an architect, and I've previously managed to source surplus from a big residential job – but not turned anything viable up. Thought it might be worth posting here in case anyone has any leads. Ta!

  • If you can get the floor solid and level, what about garage epoxy?

Not sure about cost, maybe ask in the car thread for tips.

  • Yes .. well currently it's just a primed / painted particle board subfloor – want to avoid doing anything drastic like having to put down screed.

  • Cycling team sponsorship works ... I bought some Hansgrohe (actually the Grohe brand) mixer taps for the kitchen and bathroom - very pleased indeed, well made, smoooooth action and look really good. Instructions are a lesson in clarity too. Problem is I now use them just to use them, so water bill will be a bit higher this month :-)

  • I use Soudal adhesives when possible 🤣

  • all my grout is mapei (no joke)

  • Ha. So is mine. For no other reason than Colnago...!

  • I bought some Hansgrohe (actually the Grohe brand)

Haha, I assume you know this?

Here, Hansgrohe has basically done the advertising for Grohe.

It's a bit like the history of Adidas and Puma.

    Cycling team sponsorship works

    So, erm ... :)

  • That's interesting, thanks Oliver, I didn't know that.

Perhaps that family tension helped to raise the bar of quality through one-upmanship.

But yes, I have unwittingly strayed off the intended path!

  • Can't decide if these are wonderful or just in my head they're good.

  • Very nice. The single has much thicker seat, or optical illusion? I like the slim seat cusions on the double. Are they Vitsoe? Look like a Dieter Rams design, but not 620s I dont think. I prefer your pic to 620s, very clean design.

  • They are amazing. Still kicking myself for missing a sofa on eBay several years back for a steal...!

  • Been seeing a couple of places that for some reason have a bath in the bedroom, full roll top types.
For some reason this incenses me, not sure whether it’s because I’ve never viewed baths as a relaxing thing to do, or just the strangeness of having to clean up water from a bath in a bedroom.

  • I dig those but they have to be in the right setting. Will work well with other Rams stuff but might go a bit advertising-agency-reception in the wrong room

  • Nice depending on the setting would be my vote

  • They look rather deep to be ergonomically useful to me, though of course we're talking design thread here.

  • Out of interest does anyone know where Vitra et al have got to with the use of plastics in there furniture? Not finding much about the use of recycled plastics. Seems to be at odds with the general direction of the rest of the world. Add to that the number of people buying cheap China fakes seems like we're gonna end up with a lot of unmanageable waste.

  • @jono84 - See attached.

  • Can you link me to the cheap Chinese fakes? Asking for a friend...

  • The high back version are extremely comfortable. I'd like to have one in my room of shelves. They've just launched a fabric covered version.

  • Add to that the number of people buying.

  • Phoenix Central Park.. I reckon this is worth a visit.
