Was in San Gimignano last summer on a touring loop down from Firenze up to Venice.
Was amazing, I had just managed to beat a thunderstorm into the town and it flooded empty of people so I was one of the few remaining. Could cycle in the town on a hot day in August! Sheltered under a passage with a view on the thundering valley below. Great experience! -

I could do with an architect/ interior designer/project manager for an overhaul of our 2 bed flat.
It won't be very exciting, I'm afraid, but we need to insulate as minimally as possible, put secondary glazing in, draw up designs for a mezzanine floor/ bed in a front room, redo both bathrooms, and soundproof/ full blackout curtain the bedrooms.
It is a nice little space, and we'd like to make more out of it, hide more storage in places and make it a little more comfortable in winter.PM me please!

Spent our last afternoon on our trip wandering around Mdina, Malta. The silent city, exquisitely preserved.

Just ignore all that shit. It's obviously a prime opportunity for rubbish architects to try to raise their profile. It will undoubtedly be rebuilt as faithfully to the original as possible (although I can't say I considered the spire an architectural masterpiece).

Blasphemy! I believe the design was communicated directly from the mouth of Yahweh to Hiram Abiff, King Solomon's chief architect. He was subsequently murdered over purported punch list discrepencies.

Bit random but...
... Has anyone seen, or does anyone have any good ideas for skylights or glass roof sections for roman tile roofs like this?

If you go for a standard velux or similar there shouldn't be an issue if your roof primary is timber rafters, but you might need to specify a different rooflight collar/flashing detail. Get on the phone to a supplier of a system you're interested in.

Cheers. It was more about inspiration for more interesting ideas. It's for a barn with almost no windows which windows couldn't be added to.

Ahh I see. Sorry, I was battered when I responded to this and missed the point of the question. Where's the barn btw? UK?
-
• #2642
No. SW France.
Just a day dream at the moment. Workshop and garage downstairs and then a sort of gite type thing upstairs. But just wanted to look for inspiration on what could be done.

Sounds epic. I've no idea what kind of planning system they've got in France, but might be worth doing some research into what you'd be able to get permission for.

Hi guys. There's a Trinidadian architect who's coming to the UK, to film a project involving architecture. Anyone interested in collaborating with him, he's Nigel Thomas - ntarchitecture@gmail.com
If he asks, its Ashley that gave you the heads-up. He doesn't know GA2G.

I always enjoy these picture series about wild and wacky unbuilt stuff, although, terrifyingly, in this case some of the projects, all certifiably bonkers, still seem alive and being pursued, if just in some confused minds and with no funding:

I'd love an architect to come and look at what we might be able do to the rear lower ground floor of our (4 storey victorian mid-terrace) place. What i'd like is someone to visit, come up with a few ideas within a pretty broad brief and produce some concept sketches. Does that count as RIBA 2? Any idea what I should look for and what I should budget? Any recommendations?

Hi there, where is your place? I’m an architect! I’ll PM you tomorrow

Cool!
We were in Gimignano as well, sadly being on a bus tour (I know) we weren't given the time to climb the towers. Really beautiful place though, certainly worth the visit.
Everyone should see the High Line, such an amazingly forward thinking transformation of unused infrastructure.
