I have 17 days in Sri Lanka, expecting to see a couple of Geoffrey Bawa masterpieces.

After 48 years, I'm finally going home... -

We've been twice in the last year. Such a beautiful country.
Stayed a couple of nights in Paradise Road in Bentota which was converted by Geoffrey Bawa.

Just spent the day in Colombo,
Seeing the sights and visiting my father's home district 15 around De LaSalle Street, little has changed in 50 years. Whereas Downtown area has had some huge developments and a seven star hotel planned. Fort district has some impressive buildings. We are staying in a nice little hotel close Mount Lavinia Beach. It's 35 deg and the evenings are intertupted by the nearby sounds of train horns and temple chanting.Galle/Unawatuna tomorrow

So Tracey Emin is refused planning permission to demolish a historic building and concludes that she's not wanted:

I thought she was already a fully fledged margatite.

margatite
Is that a word? :)
Well, it is now.
She's from Margate, but I have no idea of the extent to which she identifies with it or whether she would want to move there.

Is there any valid reason why she's taking it personally/ on behalf of artists, rather than seeing it as normal planning process?
-
• #2209
It's an art statement.

No idea. I'd see it as a perfectly normal planning outcome, but so much goes on during a complex planning application process that it's anyone's guess, really. I certainly think the outcome is to be welcomed, but I'm not saying that because I have something against her but because of the difference between the existing and proposed buildings and their uses.

I'm not saying that because I have something against her
Indeed, it appears utterly self-obsessed to think that it's about her, but maybe there's more to it...

That's lovely, and almost exactly the kind of thing I'm after.

^^whoop. I meant the room divider on the previous page.

We are staying at the exquisite Villa Thawthisa Unawatuna. First impressions are great, defo Geoffrey Bawa inspired. But some of the detailing and lack of practicality is now beginning to grate.
I need to have a word with the architect, interior designer and lighting designer..

Bit random, but does anyone know if these legs have a particular name?
Most of our furniture is sort of mid-century G-Plan stuff from charity shops/car boots, and after being out-bid on an uber pricey Stag side table I'm wondering if there's a way to build something nice out of this Ikea thing:
(we've found it hard to find something that fits the alcove)
Any other tasteful TV mounting ideas welcome.

Anyone fancy a "working" radiogram? Mid-century teak, top surface has a few marks.
Turntable spins and radio works £50
N7 pick-up

;)
Cheers, I'll add that to the search terms. More chance of them being sub-120cm as well. Unlike fucking side boards.

Cheers.
As in just by Finsbury Park?
Edit oh they have a map :s

Some nice stuff, fairly pricey though. I think I've might have been spoilt by North Circular car boot / charity shop bargains.
With a van you could probably make a living from furniture arbitrage.

Can anyone recommend a sofa or range of sofas that are self assembly, flat pack, or at least able to be broken down into arms, back and base. Need a large sofa for a room 16ft x 13ft but access is very difficult. Room currently has a modular corner sofa but its very modern and doesn't suit the house (circa 1900)
