^ Alas, I already knew. Didn't want to be the bearer of bad news :(
Would have been nice for it to have some positive impact on the people who actually live in the borough. Wishful thinking...

Looks like they ran out of money for the opening as well.

Half my street just went outside to watch the show and couldn't see a damn thing as the lasers weren't coming out high enough :(
-

what the hell was that? two blinking green lasers?
did they buy that at maplins? that was a proper insult to the general
public. -

hey my mate was setting those lasers up yesterday
he didn't source them he was just part of the team setting them up
he'd seen better lasers in the rave clubs of the early 90's -

I actually quite like it too, but not the lorries that were used to build it, especially during that mammouth concrete pour.
What interests me more than the building itself though are the wider implications:
What is the social and economical impact on the surrounding area?
Will it create local jobs?
Could it put local businesses out of business? Or will it provide customers for local businesses?
How much bike parking will be provided?
Etc.For one the area will get even duller, and more homogenised. Even more Ruperts and Cecils wearing jumpers around the shoulder like what you see on Bermondsey Street. It'll become more expensive overall- I guess it'll take London that bit closer to Paris where on the rich can afford to live.
I still lament the loss of Shunt to make way this heap of shiny shit- I'm bitter. -

I've been to the shop. Bought a copy of Lolita. Great place. I wish they'd left those posters hidden though. For a few months it was wonderfully charming, but it's remarkable how quickly the fun was sucked out of it with thoughtless bullshit copies.

Excellent, this belongs there too.
The library at Eger, with editions of books that were printed to match the required bookshelf heights!

i like the shard. its a nice visual contrast from the brown boredom everywhere.
its also a good orientation point.
thats a brilliant thing in shanghai that you know where you are most of the time by just looking
at the various landmarks.Yeah I'm a big fan, the only think it's missing is a Great Eye, ever watchful

Open House
I seem to miss this every year as it creeps up and the balloted places are long gone. Just a (late-ish) heads-up - http://londonopenhouse.org/important/general.html -

hi all, not sure if this is the place for it but I am looking for a Hans Wegner cigar chair or something suitably danishly similar (no bacon) any ideas where I might be able to pick one up pre-super price of antique shop premiums?
