You wait until London throws it's weight around...
+1. We can out-wrestle anyone! (errr)

Voted: every team gets 2 chances. Of course.

Why are we doing it like that? Because everyone else does / we have always done it like that.
Sorry, this is not a convincing argument.

2 finals.
Moarrrr

Quite simply, Bill, I examined the problem from all angles. Logic informed me that if 31 teams get two chances, then the 32nd team should also get 2 chances. Logical decision, logically arrived at.

A convincing argument is:
it's really exciting when there 2 finals, and it is less exciting when there is 1 final.

I also considered the probem from all angles, and decided that you are simply repeating the same argument again and again, without listening to what other people are saying. Logic informs me that this is called brow-beating, or even bullying. Sport is about drama & excitement. Logical conclusions are rarely exciting.

Is this what they mean by logical positivism?

Mr. Chidley, since we are here, your statement is not only illogical, it is also unworthy of refutation.

I vote Degen get a pass to the final...

What's so hard to understand. In any sport the final is the final. Your past performances don't matter. Who you beat earlier on doesn't matter. You need to win the final to win the tournament.
So the double elimination element is a way to narrow down a large field to the two teams that compete in the final. If you win all your games, great, then you get a place in the final. The other place is given to the team who only loses once. Now both teams are in the final and the winner wins the tournament.
If you are looking for a fairer way to decide the winner, then stick with league style round robin, with no finals system. Much fairer, but not as exciting for a tournament.
This makes sense. Wait, it's written by a dingo!
Correction: this makes no sense whatsoever, but is clearly right.

Maybe we should make the whole event one big final, people will be on the edge of their seats!
"One big final, more games, more winners, more losers, on ESPN at 8, sponsored by 4 Loco."

I vote Degen get a pass to the final...
The first (only?) one.

Your logic is impeccable, Captain. We are in grave danger.

I agree with this.
I know it breaks the 'rules' of double elim but since when can we not think for ourselves and make changes? The argument that everyone should have a chance to lose without getting knocked out is fair enough but arguing that we should play that way just because that what the format dictates is nonsense.
In summary you play the tourney and become one of the two top teams (how you get there is irrelevant) and then you play each other in a face off to decide the best team.

I see no reason to insult me, sir. I believe I've been completely logical about the whole affair.
Because you feel. I don't. All I know is logic. We'll be lucky to repair this ship and get away in time.

Why thank you, old man.
Words into my mouth? Classic entryist tactics.
... each team remains in until it loses two games ...
... one final that may consist of two games ...
