  • By work boots, you mean those big leather heavy duty one?

  • Foot retention or not, fixed riders have been 'coasting' downhill like that since the start.
Back when scorching was popular, fixed offroaders and fixed road riders....That was one of the most common ways to get down mountain passes at a decent speed.
He has two brakes so can control his speed....he can then get his feet back onto the pedals easily as he has flats.

There are far more dangerous practices in fixed riding happening in every city. Like brakeless riding by riders who are clearly not competent to ride that way.

Also, why do people immediately assume that if you have two brakes then you may as well ride free?
Fixed wasn't invented to allow you to remove a back brake and skid....just incase anyone has forgotten that.

Has he crashed yet, or shown any signs of doing so whilst coasting this way? If not it's his business really no?

  • i think there might have been a typo and it was meant to read "to avoid taking his workboots off" (i.e. he doesnt want to have to carry an extra pair of shoes)

  • Fixed wasn't invented to allow you to remove a back brake and skid....just incase anyone has forgotten that.

    Zing!

    I'm forever converted.

  • He originally did use straps but it was a faff getting his boots in and the straps went
fapp, fapp, fapp on the road on the downhills.

maybe he needs some stunt pegs or foot rests to rest his feet on,

gotta be safer than just letting your legs dangle in mid air.

  • show him the nasty injuries thread with all the x-ray photo's

  • know you feel like a good friend, but your perception of risk and his are two totally different things, he has two brakes to control his speed, and feels like he is riding within reasonably parameters. Leave him too it. If he has an accident, injures himself, then he may change how he rides, he may not.

In the end it has nothing to do with you at all, leave him to enjoy riding his bike his way. If he was riding fixed without a back brake you might have a leg to stand on, but he isn't so you don't.

    Let it go..

  • Chuck a shaving foam pie in his face.

  • stop being friends with him
    it's the only answer

  • ..or at least deliver a disapproving 'tut'

  • Anyone said to kill him kill hum in the face?

  • What's it like to pull a rear brake when riding fixed?

  • well, it's like slowing down, but like, *not *using your legs, you dig? it was so awesome man...

  • Back when I first rode fixed, I was double-break fixed. I remember walking into cycle surgery, and the guy behind the till tried to convince me it was dangerous to have a rear break with fixed, something about the two breaking forces working against each other.

    It made no sense.

    Cool story bro.

  • Did he buy a foffa or caramel bike?

    The constant trolling is tiresome.

  • You're tiresome... Etc...

    #cantsleep

  • crikey i cant sleep, because i keep waking up in a cold sweat after having a nightmare that i actually bought a foffa bike.joe are you experiencing the same nightmare

  • I think I was experiencing mild codeine withdrawals... Fortunately not Foffa related...

  • This reminds me.

I actually have a pair of men's black patent open toed 3 inch high heels for sale - size 45.

    Any takers?
    dibs

  • ah codeine,i used to like DF 118's when i broke my hip ,the omnopon was much better though ;-)
