  • we'll always want a new polo bike no matter how good ours is atm

  • Spoke to a taiwanese frame manufacturing company about 6 months ago. Minimum order of 100 units (in EACH size). very difficult to sell 100 units, if I did it would mean every third polo player in the uk would be on one. Not to mention that those third would ALL have to be averagely heighted. blech. Still go cad drawings and models and all the rest.

Had problems with engineering it to pass CEN tests too, without being stupidly heavy. CEN tests are a must if you're not building semi-custom frames else you're leaving yourself open to suings and the like.

  • I've always found the riding in circles site really confusing.

I just want to know what their polo frame geo is and how to buy. How do I find that out?

  • Is the Dodici frame available to buy?

I still can't believe on one have made a bike for polo that is worse than the one most people use for polo.

EDIT: There's a comment field at the bottom which on one seem to be reply to, should we?

  • This picture has got to be a piss take.

    O rly?

  • something odd is going on at on one, I'm told lots of new stuff is now on hold till September pending a big announcement.

I think this frame might have been rushed through.

I was going to, but decided it's probably better not to, incase there is any hope of sponsership in the future.

  • Yeah fair do, but we could be nice about it.

  • Yeah, true. I would struggle to be nice, so I'm saying nothing.

I'd say after the February tournament in Cambridge I'd say this is unlikely.

  • Sorry, I realise that sounds incredibly illusive. We approached them for sponsorship and after some positive phone calls initially, it all turned out to be a bit of a let down.

That said, I still ride a Pompino and I love it although I'm intrigued by the rumours they aren't in fact as resilient to polo beatings as first thought.

Do people love them? I think my pompino is one of the worst* bikes Ive ever owned. I like that its cheap, and relatively tough for the price, but its basically a disposable piece of soulless crap that weighs a fucking ton. Thats what makes it good for polo, and bad for pretty much anything else. Did I mention that theyre really fucking ugly?

This new thing is the same geometry, with less tyre clearance and no brake bosses. Or mudguard eyes. Its not built for practicality, its clearly not built to look good, so..er. whats the point?

*Its not technically the worst, because I still have this old aluminium Ribble road frame, that rides exactly like the coke can on wheels that it is, which upsets me because my old SLX Ribble is one of my favourite bikes ever. Whats left of it, anyway..

    With the current pompino;

different graphic (pompolo), come with beefer fork, and the right component for the polo crowd.

they don't even need to make a whole new frame, just take the existing one and sell it as a polo bike, they already done that with the other pompino (road, city, alfine, etc.), it can't be hard to do a polo one with the exception of a different fork.

  • They'd have to clearcoat the frame raw to please the polo crowd... I love my Pomp, so fuck you Johnny Eggpie... :P

Please, even from someone who loves his Pompino, putting new stickers on it and giving it beefier forks isn't going to make it a polo specific bike.

would get it pretty close though. you could faff the geo a bit maybe, but a pair of straight forks with v brake mounts and clearance up to 42c-ish tyres, a crankset with bashguard and i'd say they were nearly there. it's not going to be absolute top of the range and probably pretty heavy/ugly but it would be popular with a lot of people starting out.

quite so, but didn't people do that already? (I'm looking at you Joe with your Brooklyn), surely it would make sense to sell it as a ready-to-run polo bike? even if it's not perfect.

  • Stickers are awesome...

  • Indeed they are, the only awesome part of your Pompolo.

  • So you and joe both have pompinos with brooklyn stickers?

    is this a new trend?

  • I'm amazed how many edumacated bike people have actually thought my Pomp is a Brooklyn... Staggering...

  • So if I put a Brooklyn sticker on a dented Nag, would it be worth more?

  • pompino is fugly but it seems to work.

This thing on the other hand looks like a waste of time and money on all fronts
