Good times, some truely horrible free beer, and LOADS of people. I think the free booze must have tempted some trendies from north of the river, there can't be that many hipsters in south london. I saw a few linen suits, and anthony gormley himself (although not in a linen suit).

Well there is Goldsmiths college and Camberwell right on the doorstep which might explain hipster count.

Those linen suit wearers would be the art market cunts and Anthony Gormleys daughter designed the cafe bar. Not that she's living off her dads fame or anything...

So 'famous' peoples' offspring must never do anything visible, notable or interesting, in case they're trading on their parents' success? Does this rule apply to the aristocracy as well?

Yeah - a New Aristocracy. I agree with your general point actually. But still, it's be nice to give anyone, even those straight out of higher ed', the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you know more about the comission than just a casual observer like me.

I think it's pretty hard for the offspring of the successful sometimes, FWIW, to be allowed to function as an individual seperate from the reputation of their parent. My partner has suffered somewhat from people assuming that her slightly well-known architect dad has somehow lubed the path of her design business, but I think that fact may well have been as much baggage as a help.

I think in the end you definitely have to get by on your own merits, but it helps having a leg up so to speak. Stella McCartney would probably be the best example.

I just find it strange how the commission was given to a undergraduate architect who wasn't even the most distinguished student in her year. Especially when you consider the wealth of young and emerging architectural and artistic talent that London has to offer.
