Any suggestions for a nice small cabinet thing - no more than 1m wide and not much taller than that either. To go in an alcove in the dining room part of our kitchen / dining / lounge space.
Cheaper the better

Depends on the overall interior - I always work my way up from IKEA toward habitat and onwards to Heals / Hay etc before circling back round to twin track and plywood.
Habitat Max ?

I got a Cubo sideboard from Another Brand, made to custom dimensions and with a non-standard finish, for a price that was cheaper than a lot of other options* I was considering.
*other option 1 being a muuto enfold tall, with a provided width of 94.5cm. When it turned up at 106cm and definitely didn't fit in the alcove there were many annoyed people right up the email chain back to the supplier. Dimensions on the web are still incorrect.

Thanks, very excited to see it in real life.

Overall style is eclectic - but mostly mid-century (ish) second hand pieces.
Thanks for suggestions, Another Brand one looks ace and I like the idea of getting a stained finish to avoid having 10 different shades of natural wood finish in one room

Muuto is lovely but way too much £££ for me

Stunning! Can I ask where you found it?

The two black Valchromat wardrobes he just installed are mint

Why does this happen? I had the same thing happen and it was such a faff to get them to agree to pick it up and admit it actually wasn't the listed size.

Yeah, love that stuff... he did all the work in my last place and was great.

haha! It was such a ballache to get it dealt with. Illums Bolighus are the only people with it correctly listed (at least in-store when I was there), so credit to them for getting their tape measures out. There was not a single dimension of the unit that I could get to tally with the published specs; inner, outer, whatever. No idea where they got them from.

Looking for a high-backed, possibly wing-back chair for lounging around in and also for breastfeeding.
My wife likes the look of this kind of thing - anything else similar, preferably that doesn't break the bank (that one is c.£500, and tbh I'd rather spend no more than a couple of hundred because we have not very much money spare at the mo).
Have been keeping an eye out on ebay for second-hand, but stuff is either super chunky (in a grandparents' house kind of way) or really pricey. Any ideas? Even if it's just a model/brand I can keep a look out for.

HAY about a lounge chair ?

Someone mentioned changes coming at habitat upthread - what's the deal? I got the email about them moving over to Argos for online sales (not useful - the Argos in catford has permanently closed), will the main TCR shop still be there? Will they still sell the same kind of stuff?
-

Closing the shop and making the stuff cheap seems to be the story ...
-

Oh, a bit sad about that. You've been able to buy it through Argos for a while, but taking the name and applying it to all of Sainsbury's home furniture range feels like a sad move. I know there are a lot of people on here with rather keener interests in furniture, but to me the Habitat brand has always been the one I think of if I'm looking at 'proper' furniture, it's where I buy picture frames, and it's where my parents (and their generation) aspired to get their new stuff when they were younger. I think a lot of households have Habitat associated memories.

I've got several Habitat purchases and presents that I love. Lots of the red Perspex stuff they used to do, clock, picture frames etc.
I flicked through their new range a couple of days ago and I thought it looked pretty lower end stuff, now I know why.
I am a little sad as well, but change is constant I guess. -

will the main TCR shop still be there?
It shut some time ago. Sad to see it empty.
-

Agree with that. I think the flagship store on TCR also went some way to it being seen as a proper furniture brand.

Really?! I think one of the last times I went into central to go shopping was to pick up some picture frames there. Shows how often I get out.
Indeed, lovely.
