  • Does anyone have any use for these bits? Basically 2 chairs but missing the legs and some of the hardware (can include dog chewed legs if required) Free to collect from SE20 or they'll go to the tip I guess!

Edit: fuck, sorry for the terrible photos.

  • Found some shelving I want from a company in Belgium, unfortunately they don’t ship to the UK. Anyone know the best way/recommendations on alternate ways of getting it brought to the UK? No dealt with anything like this so a bit clueless if it’s in the realms of possibility or not

  • they probably don’t have an intermediary shipper/handler to deal with the VAT and duty for non E.U export, no idea if they can be sourced by you?
We are having some custom furniture made in Poland and are their first customers in the U.K, the export and customs handling is done by a separate firm who hold the goods until all duties are paid.

  • How big is the package? If you have a fedex / ups account you might be able to arrange the collection but assuming the seller doesn’t ship as they cba you’d need to know how to do the customs paperwork and provide the customs entry to the seller following the shipment so they can refund the vat. It’s not that hard, just fedex aren’t that helpful

Obviously there’s proper road freight shippers too but then you’re talking £300+ for the customs paperwork alone

  • Roof rack and a weekend trip to Ghent.

  • Thanks for advice all.

This is the company in particular, looking for a wardrobe and maybe some extra bits. Imagine they flatpack so the size would not be huge.

I have no clue about customs process so probs would need to find a company to handle that, I guess it’s just a case of googling and finding some quotes?

    @hugo7 was a thought but I can’t drive haha

  • I looked at this (same company) but the only way I could organise for it to happen was driving it back

  • Thoughts and prayers if it's Gerlach.

  • Anyone used Loaf?

Want a simple wooden framed bed. Looking at Noggin or Ribbon but worry they're flimsy. Want something rock solid and not going to crack when jumped on. Which may be asking a lot and looking at solving the problem the wrong way around, but that's where we are.

  • I have a loaf table. It's OK, would have been a bit steep at full price. Doesn't strike me as more or less sturdy than anything else but don't know about the beds.

  • Anyone used Loaf?

No just no - they are just another shitty Made-like company. They'll be gone in five years.

What's wrong with Ikea for your need?

    Looking at Noggin or Ribbon

For that money you could buy from Heals FFS.

  • Have a Warren Evans bed that is pretty sturdy. Looks like they have a "Coronation Weekend" sale on right now, although I swear the last time I checked their website there was also a sale so maybe it's not really a thing.

  • Or ercol?

I'd like to see one of these in the flesh

  • I've always been pretty happy with price to convenience/quality ratio of Made. We've got furniture from them that must be 11 or 12 years old and looks/functions great and will likely do so for another decade, even if the company has long since gone.

Re. cost, Heals attracts as much if not more novelty tax surely - I don't really want to buy a McQueen Kingsize Bed for £7,495.

But they do sell Ercol which is a decent shout @giles337 and thanks also for the naturalbedcompany link which has some nice looking ones - also a way to optionally order stronger slats which may be relevant for us.

Yes, but the company has gone, and it's likely that the stuff was overpriced to start with, and drop-shipped from wherever in china. All style, not much of substance.

They do, but unlike Made and their ilk they've made a long term sustainable business out of it. There's a greater chance that you'd get what you paid for. Why buy from Loaf when you could get this for the same money.

Yes - Ercole would be another good shout for something classier. Worth looking at their outlet store.

John Lewis has some good stuff that won't break the bank either.

  • I thought they'd gone bust a few years back?

  • Most Loaf stuff seems to be made in Long Eaton:

    https://loaf.com/meet-the-makers/the-long-eaton-bed-story?slide=2

We have a loaf bed and sofa and both seem well made and stand up to assault from kids.

  • Hadn't heard about that, seems like they're back in any case.

  • Beds though:

    Where I'm made
Handmade by skilled artisans in Ningbo, China

  • I thought they'd gone bust a few years back?

Same! I liked their beds. Is it the same stuff now?

  • very basic website but I can vouch for the quality of these beds - ours is 20 years old and counting:

  • We’ve got beds in guest rooms from Muji and really like them.

Alternatively you could get something custom made - which is what we did and honestly wasn’t much more than a lot of the loaf beds
