Heh. Thanks man. I hate to contribute to the tide of ukulele, handclaps and glockespiel twee that has been tv music for the last decade but the public wants what the public gets so...
That second one was a bit of an experiment in mic-technique and was recorded entirely with an SM57.

Anyone have any tips on a solid music computer? I'm currently using a win 7 PC which is getting a bit tired so thinking about an upgrade. I mostly use Cubase with a large variety of plugins (some free, some paid for, some naughty) and have very little under-the-hood Mac experience and don't want to find out that some of my older/legacy hardware isn't supported by a more recent OS...
At the moment it's an in place studio tool (glorified tape machine) but a laptop might be useful with future live endeavours and location work. Added to that, I need to learn pro-tools properly at some point and all studios seem to use macs.Upgrading current machine would involve new MB/processor/RAM (and probably SSD) plus OS surgery upgrading to 64bit, so I'm thinking a whole new machine is probably more sensible.

For those of you who have an earlier version of Reason, Propellerheads are doing the upgrade to 8.3 for €99, for the next few days.

Does anyone have an old speaker/enclosure with space for an 8" driver they could donate? Doesn't need to be functioning, and will probably be tearing the back off it. Going to make a sub kick for my school's music tech class and this is the easier way of making it.

This Friday I'm doing a live performance of some music I was involved in putting together for The Journey Home the Little Angel Theatre. It's a kids puppet show with very little speech and we were so happy with the music.
The full show is on at 5 and we're playing at 8.The puppets are incredible but I wonder if the material is a bit much at times. It's focussed on climate change and habitat destruction.
Get 'em young!!

Just saw this. Resisting urges to make Spinal Tap puppet show joeks. Nice one Thoma!
Subscribed to Tape-Op (for free) last week in order to be able to read archive articles. Was after a particular article about the recording of "Pass You By" by Gillian Welch and the recording of the upright bass part played by Roy Husky Jr. In the article T Bone Burnett (who has made some of the best sounding records of the last 20 year imo) claims that bass on the record was coming through the vocal mic only and that the close mic was completely out. I find that pretty hard to believe tbh.

Any thoughts?

I've only ever driven Logic and am still on 9. I dig it though. I'm afraid of upgrading to X because I'm essentially Ahmish and fear change.
I need a new machine tho so will inevitably make the leap when I upgrade the hardware.

Am emerging from new baby induced hiatus the last few days and did some recording at the weekend. Started with little lullaby thing that I'd recorded on my phone late one night whilst on shushing duty. Transferred the file to Logic and applied a bit of gain and a noise-filter and the result is surprisingly usable. Have overdubbed guitar, bass and BVs on the original. Going to add some other bits of atmosphere also recorded on my phone and mix/master it this week. Fun little project.
