  • Anyone using Presonus Studio One 4? I've gotten the artist pack and I'm living it, a lot more user friendly than Logic for me.

I'm having one issue though. I left my Akai MPK at my folks house and I've been trying to use the keyboard as a trigger for Impact drums but I can't figure out how to assign keys to the pad? I feel like there should be an obvious answer but I can't figure it out?

  • His first name was Alain so I think A-Trac was probably based off that rather than a weird media. But who knows.. maybe he's a sucker for compression algorithms.

  • Tempting, but don't think don't think I can get past all the flashing lights + plastic.

I'm only going to get one of them just to add a few familiar sounds to things and I'll probably find the USB audio useful as I want to start processing everything individually and I have sh*t loads of individual outs on other stuff.

  • Being a proprietary Sony technology, audio in Playstation games still has to be compressed using ATRAC, though it’s a different/newer version of the codec than Minidiscs used.

  • It’s fugly, no doubt.

  • Small update: Got the Focusrite 2i2 and the Eris 3.5 speakers.

The speakers sounded quite bass-starved in the beginning, but they come with a dial on the back. Allowing to boost or reduce the bass. After a few days the dial is flat again. Sonds miles better than my old crappy 2.1 system. Especially treble-focused sounds, like say acoustic guitar sound great.

The 2i2 does what it says on the tin. After a bit of faffing about figuring out when to use direct monitoring and when to not, as well as learning about buffer sizes, I'm quite happy with it. Recorded some podcast-type stuff over the weekend using the girlfriends Rode NT1-A. Really useful interface.

    Thanks for all the recommendations!

  • What do you mean the dial is flat again?

  • At first I had the bass boosted a little as I thought it was too weak. I have since probably grown more accustomed to the sound, or the setup on my desk (close to a wall both at the back and the sides) boosts bass, because I have dialed the bass boost back to 0 and all sounds fine now.

  • Anyone fancy a free audio interface? I've had this for years and it's bloody great but lexicon discontinued it. It was working fine until mac os high sierra but now it doesn't play ball. Wonder if it'll still work on windows? Windows drivers were updated longer and they say Windows 10 64bit so I'm pretty sure it'll work.

  • I see. I thought you meant it had self-adjusted or worn-in or something weird.

  • Yes. If anything just to try and remove the hiss from the little unit I have.

    I'm running 64bit Win10 so I can give it a whirl.

  • My ears have. Probably. Worn in. ;)

  • Having been sniffing around eurorack for years I’ve finally dipped a toe in. Probably have to wait a few weeks for the rest of the modules but I think I can maybe start using this already if I fashion an ADSR or EG from one of my Aira modular units.

Intention is a heavily modulated mono voice for making electro synth lines and sound effects.

  • Oooh, looks fun. A nice size. Will that Doepfer also take care of some attenuation?

Also ... I guess you’re sequencing by midi. Will you have some sort of clock divider from that?

Not sure if you have a module on order for function generator / AR / ADSR already but this Nano module looks really nice for the size.

  • Ah yeah, I have the Intellijel dual ADSR going in that 3u gap. Remaining for the 1u row are the midi interface, the Duatt twin attenuverter and the Zeroscope, because when you have a wavefolder you kind of have to have a scope, right?

All the mod inputs on the 810 have attenuation as well but yes, the dual VCA can do simple attenuation with no modulation/envelope.

The Intellijel 1u midi thing has a fixed 16th note clock division output and a second clock output that you can change the division setting for. I intend to do a lot of the sequencing from either the Monomachine or Model:Samples though. Didn’t want to start taking up HP with sequencers that weren’t any better than what I already have available. Trying to focus on modulation really. But can def see some different filter options in the future.

I also ordered a Mutable Kinks for some different options, eg swapping out with the VCA or the wavefolder.

  • It'll be this, more or less:

  • Yes. Scopes add vibes and never underestimate vibes.

What are the main uses for Kinks? Is that a waveshaper?

I’ve been getting to know the 01/iv.
Thoughts so far; sounds better than I’d hoped for pitched stuff, slightly disappointed everything goes through one midi channel (rather than four). I’ll be sequencing from the Digitone once I figure out the weird lfo layering.

    Ah I see. Very neat.

  • Kinks is a mix of stuff, some simple AND/OR logic functions, a wave inverter (so eg you can make the negative portion of a waveform positive for interesting/different LFO stuff) but also (most importantly for me) has sample & hold and white noise.

Intrigued by the 01/IV, I was not at all interested based off the first few demos I saw but I've since heard some really nice stuff from it.

  • I've avoided the full eurorack rabbit hole until now (although have various bits that use the standard) but I think the first thing on my list would be a Makenoise Maths. The cut down version that's built in my 0-coast does some very cool stuff and I love the extra oscillator you can make with it - really interesting timbres without using any filters!

In fact, it's been a while since I looked into cases which were the main hurdle for me - I'm assuming new (cheaper) options are available now.

  • I started with with a uzeus power supply and some bare racks screwed into some scrap wood because module shopping is more fun than case shopping.

Mine is essentially a stupid tactile bleeperblooper

  • That looks like a ton of fun.

  • I think the Arturia case looks like decent value. £200ish for a 3u case with well-specced power, but there are definitely cheaper blank skiffs (or DIY of course) that you can stick a power module in.

The Palette fits my space requirements better though, and the 1u bits are very helpful.

  • Yeah that looks like a great little box, more cases should chuck the 1U section in.

Keystep pro is the next thing I want, to get more immediacy to the gear I already have!

    On that note 😂:
