  • Can anyone confirm for sure who's allowed to give fines / threaten with confiscation (do they even have the powers to do this? I assume they wouldn't attempt to confiscate a car that went in the lane?) . I was under the impression that it's only the police. Is that correct?

  • The top of Baker Street where Regents Park joins has been closed which is very helpful for cyclists wanting to go through the West End after a few laps of Regents Park. No room to even squeeze a bike through so pavement riding is necessary.
I am still trying to figure out what you are supposed to do round Buckingham Palace and Bird Cage Walk. Again, cycling on the pavement may be the only sensible option

Tried turning out of the outer circle at the mosque?

  • Isn't it the army? don't they just do what they want?

Neither the police, nor anyone else, short of a court order, has powers to confiscate a bicycle*, and there is nothing in the games legislation that grants this power.

Out of my cold, dead hands.

    • Unless you have a sharpened bicycle, and are going to use it to stab someone.
  • But no photos of Brave in a trisuit.

This request can only lead to one thing

    *hopes hatbeard is not looking

    This is good news..

Still awaiting confirmation of any fine being made and/or threat of confiscation.

  • I have to say the Embankment is quite nice at the moment, I would say 1 in 3 sets traffic lights have been turned off. I had a great ride Shepherds Bush last night and the night before - traffic hasn't been bad at all, if anything it's been quiet..

    ..too quiet.

  • Hmm...most of this week has been hideous on my usual commute, well, usual that I had to change after they closed the Mall/Horseguards etc.

I usually find Embankment so hairy it's only to be considered in an emergency - maybe I'll try it tonight. Victoria Street - Parliament Squa - Whitehall - The Strand was HORRIBLE on Tuesday night...have things changed since the Games Lanes come into effect?

  • ^ This is totally retarded. They create a cordoned off cycle box in the right hand lane at the bottom of north side of the bridge, obviously for bikes turning right or going straight on. They specifically tell you on the website that it's no right turn except for cycles. Then they put a string of cones across the road).

There was a parked up unmarked City Police Shogun on the Queen St side of the junction last night - with a couple of stressy looking officers inside as they were witnessing the ensuing mayhem - peds running over the road, as the ped crossing was barriered off/mingling in with cyclist trying to get across at the same time.

I asked politely - wtf - and was told there is no pedestrian or cycle access across Upper Thames Street as the Olympic lane traffic will not be observing the traffic light signals !!

So when crossing, better watch out for liveried up beemers, who apparently aren't stopping

  • It's only a matter of time before someone is fucking clattered on that junction.

A junction that has already seen more than its fair share of horrific incidents.

But as long as some politico gets to their canapés before they get cold, then I guess it's alright.

  • So, City Rd from Angel to Old Street... Anyone been down there now the bus lane has become an Olympic lane? Are cyclists meant to join normal traffic? I have seen cars move down that road and I really don't fancy a people carrier traveling 50mph up my arse.

    +1
and bugger all signage telling anyone of the impending danger - I have mentioned it to the waiting cyclists and hopefully word will spread - a beemer is one thing, but an Olympic coach/HGV traveling at 30mph doesn't bare thinking about.

  • I'm getting unconfirmed reports that 3 members of my old tri club have been fine £135 on the spot for cycling in the Olympic lanes.. If no pay then bike confiscation..

I have asked for confirmation ..

I think this can be disregarded now.. It would seem that the report was based upon pure idiot supposition..

He does look a bit of a unit doesn't he, could make a right old dent.

  • THis one could get nasty

  • or even..

shit, hope they put some signs up soon. I had no idea.

last night as the southbound cyclists light went green, a car and a taxi went straight across their red, quite slowly, and stopped in front of a few cyclists waiting to cross. got no more than an "OI!" from the policeman standing there...

  • do the highways agency not have a duty of care to ensure that road users are aware of changes in road layout. surely if someone is hit they'd have a massive negligence suit on their hands.

  • You really think those freeloading cunts will be sticking to 30mph?
A friend of a colleague was rear-ended in an Olympic lane earlier this week by an Olympic courtesy vehicle. Arm in a sling and he's getting married soon.

Re: Southwark Bridge - "accidentally" nudging a few of those cones into the road might slow them down a bit.
I'm still gonna use it every day.

  • waiting to cross northwards at the north end of the bridge today, an olympic car goes past with a load of flashy road bikes on the roof!

  • Cones in the middle of the junction have now been re-arranged into "lanes"

But still looks f'in dangerous - non Olympic traffic at a standstill/blocking the cycle lane (as always happens here with heavy traffic) but Olympic traffic sweeping past @ speed.

    FFS be v careful.

Now totally coned off again, police stopping cycles and telling them to walk across the eastern ped crossing...

Me: Why should we? There's a cycle lane specially created...
Policeman: People were getting run over.
Me: Why don't they [olympic cars etc] stop on red then?
    Policeman: shrugs TFL innit.

I should have asked him why they weren't nicking people for it and/or tfl for encouraging criminal behavior/etc. Instead I settled for giving the finger to various olympic cars blocking the ped crossing and calling one a cunt.

I saw the Cuban team car with what looked like a couple of flashy second hand TREK racing bikes on top.

  • so this is now legalized
