  • I need a ticket for Hiromi tomorrow night at the Barbican. It’s sold out. Do people still tout tickets outside venues?

  • I've not seen this at the Barbican. Other venues, yes, but I've not seen it there.

you could call them and see if they have any returns?

  • Couldn’t have had a better view for Sam Gendel last night.

Excellent gig. Definitely not a showman like Hiromi the previous night but can really fucking play.

  • Heads up that Composer of the Week on R3 is focussed on John and Alice Coltrane atmo.

  • I went to the Tenderlonious album launch at Oslo on Wednesday night. Didn't know anything about him, just wanted to go to a LJF gig and it was close by.

Wow. What a gig. Amazing musicians. Would highly recommend listening to his latest album "You know I care". It's up on Spotify now. Kicking myself I didn't buy a copy at the gig

  • You could have got it signed!

  • Don't rub it in! Were you there?

I was on my bike with no bag, so was worried about getting it home. Still no excuse, as I didn't have far to go. All the regrets!

  • I'm jealously sat 400 miles away from London's big London.

  • Enjoying the new Resavoir album on International Anthem, one of their more underrated acts I think. 'First Light' is prime spiritual jazz.

  • Matthew Halsall tickets booked for Union Chapel in June.
really looking forward to this, couldn’t make the royal Albert hall but this is probably a better venue for Jazz.
Only £40 inc fees which is cheaper than I thought it would be.

  • I know someone who did. And it was like nothing else apparently out of this world. More than "just" a gig. I'm kinda jealous I wasn't on the ball enough to even have access to tix. There'll be another one surely. (altough maybe not in London for some time possibly)

  • I had a chance to get a ticket but didn't have the £99 spare ☹️

  • £99!!!

This reissue is worth a go...

  • Fave records of the year time is with us..

    For me it is definitely...

Children of the Forest - Milford Graves and pals

Also rediscovered Herbie's Inventions and Dimensions and Marion Brown.

  • Thomas Stanko.
Partner saw him play one of his last concerts before he passed away.
Currently going through his less furious ECM period.
Touchstone for Manu (Manu Katche French drummer)
“A specially-price limited edition compilation of the best of Manu Katché on ECM. Here the French drummer is joined in performances of his tunes by an outstanding cast of soloists including Jan Garbarek, Tomasz Stanko, Nils Petter Molvӕr, Trygve Seim, Mathias Eick, Marcin Wasilewski, Tore Brunborg, and Jacob Young. Recorded 2004 -2012 in Oslo, New York and Pernes-les-Fontaines, and drawn from his widely acclaimed albums “Neighbourhood”, “Playground”, “Third Round” and “Manu Katché”.”

And ‘Soul of Things’ with his long term quartet accomplices
“Exceptional balladesque album by the great darktoned trumpeter and his excellent young Polish quartet. There is a timeless feel to ‘Soul of Things’ that relates to Stanko’s roots as a player. The forward-looking musician is also looking back here, and re-connecting with early influences. He triggers memories of his first heroes – memories of Miles, memories of Chet Baker – in his lonesome, soulful soliloquies.”

  • Thought I'd drop this link here. A good friend of mine has a regular slot on Noods Radio and did a cracking jazz mix the other night.

  • Fergus Quill session on 6 Music last night was mad in the best way.

  • I missed Sam Gendel’s blueblue when first out, and only now just caught up with it. Blimey it’s good, a modern classic in the same way Nala Sinephro’s Space 1.8 is.

  • Really glad people are still discovering it. It’s a banger.

He’s just had a new one come out last week - The Room with Fabiano do Nascimento which is also excellent.
