  • it took me a while to work out that ^ wasn't mid-dive,,,

  • ^^^ Really seductive shot, strong advert material for touring.

  • Any recommendations of vineyards around the Bordeaux region?
    We leave a fortnight today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chateau Lafite.

  • You reckon they'll let T4 and I in there in our stinky cycling kit?

  • you can't throw a stone round that area without hitting a vineyard

  • avoid the grand cru vineyards

    I don't know.

Do you want to taste fine wines or get pissed for cheap?

  • Go organic if you can, they're a friendly bunch with non petrol guzzling travelers.
They tend to watch the amount of sulfite they use as well, less headaches!

  • Hello, Can anyone who has done this ride inform me of the possibilities of wild camping along this route? thanks :)

  • Pretty good in some places not great in others.

  • Hi

Got back from this trip yesterday was good fun, a nice ride first time on the bike camping was good went off without a hitch cheers to the people who answered my questions on the old forums.

    Itinerary went

Day 1 - Luton to Bordeaux, from there i rode to La Reole after getting slightly lost flowing the wrong green road east and ending up on Creon where i rode the roads to La Reole was a lovely ride tho i didn't rock up until night.

Day 2 - La Reole to Damazan
    Day 3- Damazan to Montech
day 4 - Montech to Trebes
day 5 - Trebes to Capestang
day 6 - Capestang to Agde
stay in Agde for 2 days as i arrived earlier then planned
Day 8 - Agde to Frontignan
    for another 2 days
day 10 - frontignan to Montpellier Airport

All in all was good fun "borrowed" some lovely apples, the bread with my evening can of cassoulet, followed by the morning cafe eclair, croissant and coffee. the riding was good aswell tho after Toulouse it turns to hard packed dirt with rocks and tree limbs to look out for, but i was riding a Single speed bike with 28c tires and had no problems, 2 punctures for the trip and one part to blame because i didn't have enough pressure from my hand pump after the airport

  • Right then. Thought I'd add to this thread rather than starting my own.

Heading off to do Bordeaux-Montpellier-Bordeaux 2 weeks today on my pompino. Taking minal kit, so clothes, tools, bivy and tarp, oh and climbing shoes just in case there's some bouldering along the way.

I'm woefully underprepared, haven't ridden a bike much this year due to doing a PGCE so I'll definitely be "riding into my form" as the pros say.

Any advice would be appreciated, hoping to wild camp most of it, going with a mate so getting murdered will hopefully be less likely. Set ourselves about 3 and 1/2 weeks to do the distance, however as we are flying back from the same place our schedule is flexible. Anything worth seeing along the way? Spent a while around carcassonne a few years back so that's definitely on the list already!

  • I'm woefully underprepared.

As how every tour should be.

Long you don't set an unrealistic mileage (says 100+ miles a day) you'll be fine.

  • I'd start off relatively easy, 30 miles a day, and build it up over the fortnight. Can get very very hot down there so definitely two bottle set up.

  • Thanks for the input guys, slightly overwhelmed at the fact I've been scobled!!! Ha ha ha.

But yes we only need to do 50k a day so it'll be nice and relaxed with a long stop for lunch each day. After the first few days we'll start zig zagging a bit more and build up the kilometerage. Really looking forward to it, I can't wait.

Doing a mock ride this weekend back home from birmingham to Notts so will post pics of my set up!

  • Rolling out today, wish me luck!!
