  • I thought the question was how to kill “a Bitcoin” which is very easy … send it to an address for which the private key is not known. Like the Bitcoin eater address.

  • Ha ha, good spot and point.

I think in principle there are two other theoretical ways to actually destroy a bitcoin. Well, one and a half.

In principle, it's possible for a miner to solve a block and not redeem the full coinbase value. They'd have to choose to do it and modify their mining code to do so, but it could be done if somebody was stupid enough. I've seen it done by accident by mining pools mining altcoins. Surely somebody did it by accident in the early days of bitcoin too.

It's also possible to include coinbase transactions in transaction op codes. These are in theory still stored in the Blockchain but loads of P2P nodes prune op code data so these transactions run the risk of being "lost" at some point.

But yeah, other than using a burn address, it's pretty hard to vanish a bitcoin.

  • Of course it is more accurate to say that bitcoin sent to an address without keys are irretrievably lost but not destroyed.

Regarding the other ways - certainly some have been properly destroyed by not being claimed properly in the Coinbase reward, according to this article more than 10 BTC have been lost in this way: https://medium.com/@alcio/how-to-destroy-bitcoins-255bb6f2142e

  • Bitcoin to $12k in the new year.

  • Ha, discussions of semantics always leads me to these points recently reiterated by the venerated pg: https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1598273760318361600

It seems that in cryptocurrency discussions this is more evident than anywhere else.

  • I am thoroughly enjoying Coffeezillas take down / call out of Logan Paul / Cryptozoo on YouTube 😂

  • Strangely enough I've jsut watched it myself.

LP is such a douche. Prime is rediculous and ppl are actually fighting over it.

  • I hope Coffeezillas keeps going with it and LP is stupid enough to sue him as he is claiming he will

  • The big boys have fucked it and now they want to control it. Knew that was gonna happen when the train started running away over the last couple
    Years.

    Shambles

  • USDC looking healthy trading at $0.9

  • All related to the SVB failure and temporarily lack of liquidity (until they can trade their T-bills on Monday morning when the markets open).

It'd be a real shame if someone really went after it now that it's almost been completely depegged...

  • Balaji going big taking a $1m bet that bitcoin will hit $1m in 90 days

  • I will take that bet.
You buy 1 BTC. I will send $1M USD.
This is ~40:1 odds as 1 BTC is worth ~$26k.

I’m not sure he understands how odds work

  • Can anyone recommend a good platform to purchase BTC? I used localbitcoins for years but that's now non-existant.

Briefly switched to binance but their transfer fees are ridiculous and not reading good things about them.

I don't need any trading facilities just a trustworthy place to buy and transfer out with minimum fees.

    Cheers!

  • Very few have min fees now, I use binance, coinbase, kraken and transfer them out when I buy it.

  • Quantum Al
Anyone know if this is for real or worth investing? I have no understanding of Crypto currency or Bit coin.

  • Website pretending to be the Mirror, using trusted figure who suddenly appears to be promoting get rich quick scheme?

    I'd be good money it's a con

  • Is a fake Mirror article where a well known money saving personality and daytime TV presenter tout riskless crypto algo trading gainz legit?

  • The scam may seem obvious from your terms of reference, but you know nothing about the OP.

Either way, taking the piss out of people who ask for help, will only lead to fewer people asking and more getting scammed.

  • I don't think you need to know anything about crypto or bitcoin to recognise that beecontrolvalleyaz are probably not a legit Mirror website, that there's no such thing as risk free money, and things that seem too good to be true are probably too good to be true.
And it was only gentle pisstaking.

(I know he was asking for whether it was legit rather than actually investing anything. I didn't intend to come across as overly scathing - just pointing out what was obvious from my terms of reference. I should probably have called him a cunt to make it obvious it was just intended mild LFGSS poking fun)

  • Effective January 9, 2024, Coinbase will no longer support Bitcoin SV (BSV).
Users are able to withdraw BSV funds until support for this asset is deprecated on January 9, 2024 at or around 12pm ET. If you fail to withdraw your BSV funds, Coinbase will liquidate any BSV remaining in your Coinbase account. Upon liquidation, your BSV will be converted to the then-equivalent market value of another supported digital asset and credited back to your account, minus any transaction costs. Please note, after accounting for transaction costs, and subject to market fluctuations, you may not receive any compensation when the remaining BSV in your account is liquidated.
If you do not withdraw your BSV by January 9, 2024, you may incur tax liability or have other unanticipated tax consequences as a result of the liquidation or conversion and you are solely responsible for any taxes associated with transactions on Coinbase.
If you do not want your BSV funds liquidated, you must withdraw your funds by January 9, 2024.
Trading is not enabled for BSV and you cannot deposit BSV funds into your Coinbase account. Attempting to send BSV to your Coinbase account may result in a loss of funds.
