Ah, thanks, never heard of them before and the Soukous-sounding guitar confused me.

Does anyone know where I might find the full final standings of the up and coming tournament? Failing that, a list of those teams that played it? Failing that, a list of all the registered teams so I can work it out?
-
• #779
i have a photo of it somewhere. I'll dig it up tomorrow or at the weekend

Hmm, the up-and-coming tournament kind of ran itself and the results weren't on file/in software as far as I know? Maybe someone took a photo of their mini-brackets, etc?Cheers Kev.

Would there be any drawings/plans remaining relating to the construction and layout of the courts/boards at Hackney?
-
• #782
I'm sure someone has dimensions and such like though
There was a basic L shape which was braced with a diagonal piece. There were 2 different heights, so there were 2 different diagonal lengths aswel. For every board there was a high L at either end and a shorter one in the middle. I'm sure someone must have a good photo.

8'x4'x18mm sheets of ply with 3"x2" attaching it all together. Constructing the bracing is the easy part. Cutting all that 3"x2" will be fun if you don't have access to a chop saw.

Buy a chop-saw, £40 at Homebase

Someone must have a specification and an order list for the timber - it'd be useful to share this along with the costs etc. for cities hoping to reach that standard of facility this year.
Who was 'in charge' of that side of things last year?
-
• #786
Ali and I, spec and price depends on the size of your court and the specification (materials) of your build.
Timber rates also vary dramatically (are you pre-buying and storing cheap wood, or delivering virgin materials the day before)? Thickness (often the council have a requirement for this)? Waterproof? Fire proof?
You can build any court to most budgets/sizes? But roughly you're looking at £1,000 a court if everyone agrees to work unpaid (it will take days to pre-fab it), make sure you make a jig, use a nail gun, have lots of volunteers/drills on the day...
We don't have an order list, because the material came from different sources at different times (some was provided by sponsors, some for free from building sites, some bought pre-event and some bought for arrival at the event), you should work out your court size (and any external requirements like painting it) and go from there?

^what he said
Ali did most of the work, I helped out as did a few others. From what I remember most of it was either in Ali's head or in his notebook. Hes your best bet.
We had 2 saws and even then it was a lot of work. Might be better renting a good chop-saw. The cheaper variety are a pain in the ass to work with.

Hey Mr K
I just found some of the google sketch drawings that Jon and I used when designing the courts in old emails. I will try and post up some images of the designs when I get home later.
Our designs were relatively simple, the court is made up of units made of a 8x4 foot ply board ( I think we went for 11mm) supported by two uprights one in the middle and one joining it to the next. This way different court sizes can be made up.
A good chop saw and the rent of a nailgun will save you a lot of time.

Yep, also we tweaked the design to have more weight on the floor of the boards (to account for the wind at Downs), there is probably a better solution (your original additional upright per board Ali, etc) if wind isn't a big issue...

I loved the design of the court... like we said Ali maybe might have been better to put the openings behind the goals? good for Goal ref and better access at either end to get on and then off court.
Tap out points could do with better integration too.
7/10

Stumbled on this.. I have a chop saw and am happy to loan it out. Might even be able to deliver if you give me enough notice.
PM if you need. Cheers -

Spare mallet holders? Score board integration (Ed Moog's thinking about this)? Tap-out point integration? More rounded corners? Quicker assembly/disassembly? Lighter materials?
The courts will be bigger and better this year, somehow, first of all we need a crane to temporarily lift the Orwell off of it's foundations...

Best score board was the one in manchester for the UK champs. LHBPA should invest.
eeeeeeehhh! noise, clear clock and clear score board. -

Only been able to find them for a cost of hundreds of pounds. Lots of talk about making our own, but no action.
-

Yeah, they're very pricey and require lots of power (12v genny per board), Ed's gonna (possibly) make us something bespoke/better for our needs (x3 for Hell's Belles/LO2012).

Good information thus far... what was the overall size of the two Hackney courts? I need to cost and size up the MCR options for our budget.
It's Surprise Hotel by Fool's Gold Will. We found it on a mixtape t'other day but I think it's a few years old.
