we can change the times of course. I just did a quick estimate. I'm sure it won't impact on price very much. But even if we don't do it for this. I think this way of travelling is a really good idea for the future, rouen for eg, would be a piece of piss, paris etc. (i also remembered it was dave hills i was talking to about it! cheers dave)

Google maps, which consistently underestimates driving times (in my considerable experience), estimates central London to EDH as slightly over 7 hours. Whichever route you go, it's going be around 400 miles.

East coast trains are particularly strict on bikes in my experience. There's a (low) limit per train and they won't take anyone without a booking, even if there's space.

Booked my train. Last train there and back (cheapest tickets).
Leaving Kings Cross Friday 15th at 7:30pm, leaving Edinburgh Sunday 17th at 7pm, cycle booking included.

Remember you can bag up your bike. Teams could box their bikes up together and stick em in the haul if bike spaces have run out on your train. Check first there is space and try and book it in.

what do you get on a first class carriage? I mean, even if it's free booze, 30 quid ban buy a lot of tins.

• #162
You get a moist towelette, a doily on both head and arm rest, the name of "sir" for the duration and a small bag of nuts.
-
• #163
I've always dreamt of being called "sir."

• #164
Might be OK for you, but it's telling that very few women travel 1st class...

Free wifi, and free food and drink.
I don't normally do it, but for £30 more, for 2 x 5 hour train jourmey it's worth it IMO

worth £30 for the slight high you'll get from the extreme culture shock, stepping from a 1st class carriage straight into scotland, only recommended if you have no previously known heart conditions

Leaving London at 5 on Friday evening? It could take 2 hours to get out past Watford.
