This morning's commute and other commuting stories

These are all very good ideas, ta. Didn't even occur to me to try the canal - I'm not fussed about going slowly as it takes years to get to work anyway with all the traffic lights. I'll try a few of these out, hopefully I can hit commute gold.

I can give you my route from Paddington to Camden (and extension to KX) by backstreets and canal. I cross over Edgeware road, so don't actually have to deal with it at all, which is nice.

It's nice reading all your stories. One of the few downsides of being freelance, no commute. Currently editing at home, doubt the bike will get used today :-(

Is it okay to use this thread for pleasant stories? Since moving to Shepherd's bush, I no longer have to struggle up to Whitestone pond before working through the school run tractors in Hampstead.

Instead now I roll down through Hyde Park, past the Albert Hall, the Mall, Birdcage walk and then across by Big Ben. Especially with the Hyde Park corner cut through and actual good weather, I haven't enjoyed riding to work this much since I had to cycle around Thames Valley.

Wanting to throw up after sprinting over Blackfriars Bridge on the Brompton.

Spent much of the ride dogged by the skinhead punk weirdo that sings like a shit banshee and jumps red lights at every junction. Why must you taunt me :(((((

Witnessed a mass brawl between two rival schools today outside Herne Hill station. Two groups of teenage girls beating the crap out of each other, I'd say around 20 odd. Shop owners and delivery men had to step in to try and break it up as the feds took too long to turn up.

Saw a massive bird poo coming my way, could do nothing to avoid it. It sailed past my right knee, through the triangle of my bike and splatted onto the road behind my left heel. Awesome.

Had taken off mudguard last week which was a bit silly
On the plus side found my waterproof trousers
On the negative side they don't stop your feet from getting soaked

Enjoyed the ride in this morning. Even battling the traffic spray and belligerent drivers on the Eastway. Once you're wet you're wet and its not so cold as to be unpleasant. Did have to dry my undercrackers under the hand dryer at work when I arrived though. Not looking forward to putting my socks and cons back on this evening!
