Beautiful morning. Lovely bit of sunshine.

Scariest ride into work this morning, winter is coming.
-
• #2154
Dreading it already.

It was proper cold just before sun up, at the dew point, then it warmed really quickly in the sun. I'm such a lazy bastard I don't notice the creaks and groans from the bike till I get it serviced and it runs silently and beautifully, I slowed to enjoy the silence!

Need to give the MTB a thorough service for the winter months. What would be the best upgrade for a basic Specialised Hardrock?
-
• #2158
If for commuting - Get it serviced, replace suspension fork for rigid, slick tyres, mudguards.
If you are a member of lfgss - Chris King Headset, crabon all mountain wheelset and xtr Di2.

Even for actual mountain biking a rigid fork would probably be an upgrade for a basic hardrock

Thanks, only thing I dont want is to make it too light (not that there is any danger of that) just want it to be reasonably heavy to give me more of a workout.

Good commute today. Felt strong in the cooler air. Perfect temperature this morning.
Smashed it up Sydenham Hill with ease but wasn't able to enjoy the descent as much as traffic was at a standstill on the way down... BOO! -

Good to see at least someone else is monitoring the DEW point in the war on cold.

First ever commute into work by bike this morning.
Only issue was me underestimating how cold it would be at 6.15am and stupidly donning only a jersey, arm warmers and mitts (and bibs, of course). Cue me shivering at every set of lights and sprinting like a madman between them to warm up. That aside, it was far more enjoyable than the usual tube journey and the roads were surprisingly empty. Why have I not done this sooner?

No seriously, why have you not done this sooner?

Everyone who starts commuting by bike asks this. Everyone! /garyoldman

Some Weight Weenie just died because of this.

And the everyone else laughed!
If having a heavy bike helps you press the pedals harder stick sand in your (second - it doesn't taste good) water bottle and get your head checked.
-
• #2169
Yeah, or you could instead just try cycling faster on your normal bike - More wind resistance.
Once you get going you forget about the weight. -

garyoldman
What's he got to with it? Is he a cyclist?
-
• #2171
He's getting confused with Gary Coleman.

Is that the film where Gene Hackman is hunting robots?
2nded. Quiet roads and paths, crisp chilly air, blue sky. Pretty much perfect commute if it wasn't for the over-ripe pear exploding in my bag. FFFFfffuu
