Yeah, I get that. Better safe than sorry - I could be a nutter.
Oh wait...
Seriously though, it's fine. I understand the potential consequences for women of strange men misinterpreting basic friendliness. I'm not saying she should have acted any differently - I just thought it made a good story.

There was a guy on a black carbon road bike with a DA groupset on my (motorbike) journey back... up the A1 and Barnet bypass!
Absolutely nuts drafting buses and lorries and riding faster than me in the driving rain.
Pretty much the living embodiment of like a boss.

Yellow overshoes?
No black toe overshoes.
Wanted to have a chat, but dude was clearly on a mission.

How sad is it that this sort of thing is necessary for women today? What's wrong with dudes? When walking at night, I have to cross the road to avoid walking behind lone women so they don't get spooked. It really frustrates me that some (a load) of arseholes give us all a bad name.

• #17233
not ALL men...
-
• #17234
No but as said above, some women would avoid chatting with someone who may be innocently friendly "in case". Which is a sorry situation to be in

Meme thread etc.

My bad, sarcasm is difficult to detect in written form :)
-
• #17237
It's @greenhell... sarcasm should be assumed unless proved otherwise. :P

Of course! :)

not technically a commute story cause it was sunday evening, but a carrera type rider snapped his chain right in front of me going up camden road. no groin injury to report, lucky guy. obviously rusty chain was veeery rusty...

Was good to be above ground, on the bike again today. It's been far too long...
I was so happy that I hardly even noticed the Izumi chain noise which accompanied me.

I was woken up to the sound of torrential rain this morning so decided to get a shower and not bother riding in.
Got out of shower, got dressed, got back to realise what I thought was torrential rain was in fact window cleaners and it was a glorious day.
Bollocks.

Having a really crap day, front mech broke/bent/moved on the way in and I just don't have time for that now so lucky I can be swapping bikes but still a huge pain.

Rode a Brompton for the first time. Didn't die.
First commute in a long time. I haven't missed it.
-
• #17245
Working or commuting? What's the gig?
-
• #17246
Commuting. Especially as it now involves 2 trains and a Brompton.
-
• #17248
If it involves folding or unfolding, my chances are scuppered.

Added a front rack and rode in without a sweaty back today, felt great. Although I did get The Wobble whilst descending down New Cross Rd to Queen's Rd. Think it's just a quirk of having the rack attached to the headtube rather than the bars and my (heavy) lock on the rack.

I've got a headtube rack on my pub bike and I get the same when it's loaded, if you put your knee against the top tube it helps stop it (not great for fixieskiddrs though)
What was he riding?
I thought I saw a grimacing Louis Theroux riding along old street today but I think it was just some weirdo who looked a bit like him. He does have a rather generic face.
